The thing you are leaving out is that OpenAI isnt the only one doing this. You can stop and sue one company, or make a law in your country that bans the practice.. maybe even limits the data that AI can use to train with (i.e; no copyrighted work) in your country. You cannot stop every other country or company from doing this.

This is so dumb. Infinite scroll is just a usability feature for applications to avoid paging controls. You folks cant even possess enough self control to stop scrolling and want to force software to go backwards in time to making things less usable.

Some people think its fluff, but it contains details that others find important to the discussion.

People who dismiss big wordy posts as "AI slop" remind me of the movie Idiocracy where the main character talked normally for a 20th century guy be everyone complained he "talked like a fag."

Im at least glad people on Reddit are finally figuring out the end result of these anti-tech anti-social media calls for regulation. An ID system is almost always the end result.

When your ID is uploaded, a government now has a easy way to verifyingly link an internet comment or post (even a simple upvote) to a real identity. This allows them to know who to go after and punish that is not in agreement with government policies. Not quite as bad in democratic nations, but in some places you can end up in jail or worse for speaking out on social media.

Not to mention this will kill diversity on the internet. Much fewer people are going to use smaller sites if you need to give them access to your real identity, and can track ans sell any activity you make on their site.

Ironically the people who scream loudest about enshittification and the evil algorithms are unknowingly pushing towards this future. You have to choose between a free internet where people need to self regulate their consumption, or a locked down one where your identities are tracked for every action you make online.

A lot of these giant companies strategy is overhiring during competitive time periods, and then cutting the fat during slumps. Its always been that way. They can afford it, and it gives them a competitive advantage over smaller business who cant take chances on poor performance.

AI is just a way for CEOs to put a label on their fat cutting.

Yep, definately must be AI:
- didnt insult anyone
- didnt sound like a grumpy downer
- didnt repeat a stupid hivemind opinion that has already been posted 100 times this week
- to the point
- make sense the first time I read it

Definately not a Redditor.

One guy, though, isnt the source of AI. Scientific discovery brought this technology to the world. We would be in this exact same point in history regardless of Altmans existence. You can rage out at technological progress and try to kill the people promoting it, while making a Reddit post on your Smartphone while sitting in your air conditioned apartment... its up to you. This all seems like moral panic to me.

That's basically "i made a false public accusation just to see your reaction." You aren't doing some clever research, that's just being a dickhead troll.

xcdesz

My high horse? You are the one being a giant dickhead and calling the OP that their "grasp of sentence structure is virtually non-existent" then picking apart every little grammatical error in their post.

xcdesz

Sounds like a shitty person with a chip on their shoulder against AI. Social media, even Reddit, has promoted and amplified this kind of witch hunting and demonizing of the scary new technology.

xcdesz

Good grief.. you refuse to see it don't you? It's right in front of you. You're actually that exact type of guy that was shitting on CGI thirty years ago.

xcdesz

Can you provide an example of a bot generated hate speech post or comment? Are you referring to Reddit or somewhere else?

xcdesz

Nah, that software they force on consumers is garbage filled with trackers and things most people dont want but are forced to use to get at the drivers.

xcdesz

Even on this subreddit people are making Altman out to be some supervillain? FFS, he is just doing what anyone in his shoes would do -- campaigning for better competition in the AI chip space. This would benefit the local LLM community and bring down AI costs, and I dont see why people here are playing along with the anti-AI media narrative.

Cool. Thx.
