A comfy recliner, My BrestFriend pillow, silverettes, Lansinoh ice packs, sunflower lecithin, my blue spectra, and pump spray were KEY in making it through breastfeeding. I also preferred nursing tanks to nursing bras and preferred a pumping bra like this as all the other pumping bras were comfortable anTd I liked that I could use this just when I was pumping and then take it off. The Lactation Network has a database of IBCLCs that will come do home visits (covered under your insurance!) and I highly recommend it. It’s the only reason I was able to breastfeed. The IBCLC at my OB’s office was horrible and made me cry and I’m so glad I found an amazing outside provider to work with.
It is possible (and likely!) that you will struggle initially. And it is possible to struggle at first and still go onto breastfeed successfully (whatever that means to each person). You can use formula temporarily AND still go on to breastfeed successfully (I did!). We struggled immensely the first 6 weeks and it didn’t become “easy” until 5 months and we still had a really positive and successful breastfeeding experience. I weaned at 18 months and I’m really glad I was able to do it.
