Agreed, so sick of these post. The answer should almost always be repair.

Second this. Definitely not OEM. And for safeties I’d never install knockoff parts for a couple bucks in savings.

Sounds like you had a bad tech. Also things have changed.

Extended warranty used to be a lot worse. We would have accounts with dozens of companies to dispatch for calls. Now all extended warranty calls come through the manufacturer and they deal with that side. So even though I do extended warranty calls, I only deal with manufacturer and customer now.

As an ASP for a few manufacturers. Repairs goes 1 of 2 ways.

they send work orders directly to me with all the information needed. I don’t get anything from the customer unless there is an extended warranty dispute. And if that’s the case I get a picture of BoS when I’m at the house to do the repair.

The other way is you have agreed to pay for the repair and get reimbursed. If that’s the case I write up my own work order for you. But this way you also have to do all the work. Reach out and book the repair in your own.

It sounds sketchy to me. I hesitate calling customers after 6pm. And I never initiate through text unless work order specified or the customer does first.

zipchuck1

The manufactures send us a work order directly. We don’t get it from the customer.

If the customer has the work order it means I’m doing the repair as Normal. Charge the customer. And they get reimbursed by manufacturer.

Some cheap microwaves have large holes in the door mesh. I would be more hesitant in that case. But if it’s a decent microwave then it’ll be fine

zipchuck1

The faraday cage doesn’t and isn’t meant to block every Single wave length.

You’d have to have a pretty big hole in the door before it because cause for concern

zipchuck1

I’ll never buy Amazon parts but if the OEM are NLA or cust is just too cheap I don’t mind the customer buying and I’ll install it. But I charge extra for callbacks when they inevitably happen.

zipchuck1

Well.. you might be struggling to swap out a new board.. because that’s a heating element?

Also That’s the wrong part#

zipchuck1

Is that bottom jumper installed correctly? Should it not go to the outer side of the relay and the purple go to the inner side?

As an incidental side note, what colour is it? I’ve only seen GE use yellow jumpers. Curious if it’s regional that used pink. Or cust used an aftermarket hoard that came with those pre installed

zipchuck1

I’d be curious to read other responses.

But f6e9 is not a code for this oven(tech sheets + tech manual). If you hadn’t posted this pic I’d say you read it wrong. That would lead me to think you have the wrong board. Also why it’s searching for an oven that doesn’t exist. Or you put the wrong program code in when prompted.

I wonder if maybe you part searched for version 20 instead of 02

zipchuck1

Did you even test anything? Or just replace the board and give up?

zipchuck1

Says the American?

zipchuck1

Looks like you took the door off without locking them properly. You’ll have to do that first. If you can’t, I’ve had to replace that whole inner panel before from when the hinge slammed into it. it broke too much off and wouldn’t catch anymore

zipchuck1

More testing needed. I have issues with the water level.

zipchuck1

Why is it so full?
What is floating in the water?

zipchuck1

Any regular parts supplier. It is a GE OEM part

zipchuck1

You can. I don’t know it off hand. But it comes as the hose and the two crimp clamps

zipchuck1

This is normal. I don’t think I’ve worked on a single oven that had all switches the same. Element size. #of rings. Function. They are not interchangeable with one another

zipchuck1

It is always possible. In 12 years I’ve only done one valve though.

That’s a good point though indeed. A lot of utility companies do that in my area for that exact reason. If they are vague and say didn’t find. They can then say get it looked at within the week or we tag it.

zipchuck1

As a tech that works for manufactures doing warranty calls.. if I attach a picture of the BoS to the work order it gets covered. Which is why I said you would require that

zipchuck1

I’ve gone to many gas leak calls.. most every time you just need to tighten the fittings. Why would the valve need to be replaced?

Also contact the lawyer that finalized the sale. They can contact the previous owners lawyer and find the BOS. Extended warranty is non transferable but the Manufacture warranty still has to be honoured. Picture a builder buying the appliance and you buying the home.

This would be true especially if you have the work order to send to them because that would be a manufacture caused defect. And gas leaks are taken very seriously by the safety departments of most major manufacturers.

Also regarding this planned obsolescence the tech mentioned, Replacing parts doesn’t cause other parts to break. Period. Parts can already be old and also starting to wear out. But not on 6month old unit. Sounds like he probably works for a store that sells appliances.

zipchuck1

Must think of and protect the next customer and yourself yeah. Unfortunate you’ve had to deal with that type of customer. Lucky I haven’t. Those eggs get everywhere and stick to everything.

zipchuck1

I’ve been in brand new builds. First use not working. Turns out they bought a certain brands oven from a certain warehouse that had an infestation. Proceeding that one I had to deal with maybe..40-50? over the next two months all the exact same issue.

So it had nothing to do with financial situation or attitude towards life.

And while some had noticed the infestation, not all did as it had not spread away from the oven yet

zipchuck1

I don’t charge extra. - customer is already going to have to pay someone else to remediate this. I dont want to kick em down further.

So basically I quote the repair (it’s easy and you can see the problem the About 5min when it’s bad like that) and then tell them I won’t instal the part until they’ve had the infestation addressed. Yeah it suck’s for them. But it’ll just get damaged again and that means a callback. So it prevents that.
