I assume there's a clog but why is this happening?

I'm pretty new to 3D printing. I got a Bambu Lab P1S a couple of weeks ago.

I've had a couple good weeks of printing PLA and ABS. I ran out of the ABS, then attached the AMS 2 Pro unit and added some new BambuLab spools of PLA.

The first couple of prints went well but then all of the sudden an opengrid print missed the last few layers. I tried again and it only printed the first couple of layers.

Also, the AMS was throwing errors saying there was a tangle in the filament on the spool or broken filament in the tubes somewhere. I unrolled & rerolled enough filament to confirm there's no clog. I also took off the filament buffer and checked stuff, there was no break.

I searched the issue and it said the extruder could be clogged so I did some method where I heat up the hot end to 260 C, try to extrude (it did nothing), so then I reversed it and pulled the filament out and cut out the very slightly mangled end of it.

After putting everything back I tried another print. The first test strip was fine but I came back and it again only printed like one layer. The printer was going through the motions like it was actually doing something. It said the print succeeded but there was nothing to show for it.

I got a brass wire brush and brushed off some plastic that had built up on the nozzle. Some plastic was oozing out so I tried a Benchy. It started out well but when I came back it obviously failed again.

I'm not sure what to do. It seems like I am unclogging something enough for it to get some good layers down, but then it just clogs up again out of nowhere.

  • Printer Model: BambuLab P1S
  • Slicer used: Default Bambu one
  • Filament material and brand: BambuLab PLA
  • Nozzle and bed temperature: Default BambuLab for PLA
  • Print Speed: Default BambuLab
  • Retraction settings: Idk what this is but I haven't changed anything

Nozzle clogging is not that common, i would bet its the gear not pushing the filament or grinding on it, check all filament paths from spool to extruder, make sure there's no binding, and check if the spool can roll easily. If the gear cant push the filament correctly it wont print anything or will severely underextrude.
