IDK what to do

My son pulled this. He wants to get it graded. We have never gotten any cards graded before. Who is the better grading company? What should he expect? Can he get ripped off or the card stolen/lost? If so, how do we protect ourselves? I read about different pay tiers for grading, what’s that about? And Finally, is it worth it or should he just hang onto it. He doesn’t need money, he’s 9. Thanks for the advice.

Is it in top loader no sleeve?

PostalCFS [OP]

Yeah, we didn’t know. It is in a sleeve now, in the top loader.

SorryCashOnly

then it’s probably too scratched up for grading

Deff a 9 at best

I would say don’t grade this. This is immediately disqualified from being a 10, and most likely an 8. A PSA 8 or below is worth less than ungraded. A PSA 9 is worth $20 more than ungraded, so still not worth the cost.

If financial sense be damned and you just want it in a slab, don’t send it to PSA or TAG or Beckett, send it to CGC or SGC. Cheaper and you’ll be losing out on less without waiting as long.

PostalCFS [OP]

Good advice, thanks. Can you tell me why it’s immediately disqualified as a 10? And no, I would be paying for the grading, so financial sense is not to be damned.

Centering is way off.

People who are trying to flip cards for a quick buck care about 9’s being equal to raw.

In 10 years, cards now will be tougher to get higher grades (think vintage cards and how they’re graded right now versus 10 years ago). Guarantee when you look at current modern cards in the future, people will be wishing they graded them even for a 9.

Dicentis_Irae

first get proper soft sleeves. it's not good for cards to jostle around in loose toploaders.

PostalCFS [OP]

Thanks, he hasn’t been into this for very long. And I haven’t the slightest clue. It is now in a sleeve and in the top loader.

Dicentis_Irae

best of luck if you end up submitting it. it should be fine as is tho. not as valuable as a 10 but I doubt this one would get the 10. gl collecting with your son!

CaptScoobertDoobert

Grading it wouldn’t do much for you. These are notoriously hard to grade and even a 9 is barely worth more than if it were ungraded. Ungraded it’s worth about $350. Congrats to him on a very rare pull either way

If he wants the card in a slab to have it in a slab, grade it the cheapest way possible this is an 8 by front centering alone (CGC lowest available tier right now is like $30 i think). They will give it a 9, they have lower standards for centering. There’s many things PSA cares about that you won’t catch. So it’s likely a 7 or an 8 at best from PSA and the only available tier right now is too much. If the thought process was to grade to get a 10 it’s not gonna happen, there’s a 0% chance.

We appreciate everyone’s feedback. We now know what left heavy means! Also, to put them in sleeves prior to the top loader. Thanks for the help.

Holy cow raw dogged a Mega Hyper Rare (notorious for scratching and flaking) into a top loader. Ouch.

Embarrassed_Amoeba76

More then likely it will be an 8 especially after being raw dogged in the top loader. These gold cards are notorious for surface scratching. It’s also off center. That being said it would be really nice for your son to have it slabbed and protected. The easiest way to grade would be just taking the card to your local GameStop. If you’re trying to grade for a cheaper price and don’t care about the company then consider sending to CGC it will be much cheaper.

Cal_carl

go to gamestop to grade it. easy process. $80 is high, but its worth it for this card

huntingboi89

No it’s not?!?!?!?

kasappa

No $80 isnt worth it.
