A reminder….

West Ham didn’t sack David Moyes, he chose not to renew his contract and the club decided against offering one.

Imagine if he'd been backed in January rather than having players sold from under him...

Our form under Moyes was awful in the latter half of the season, the season before, we were in a relegation battle for 34/38 games. Didn’t it work out we won something like 5/30 games.

RoachEWS

As I said, imagine if he'd been backed in January. As for the season before, you're right. Terrible season 🙄

The thing is, he chased Kalvin Phillips like a dog with a bone. It didn’t work out, he got who he wanted and it didn’t work. But we were crying out for recruitment in that window across the board

HomieApathy

Nah. He wanted slabhead and McTominay also. We didn’t get them.

tomomalono [OP]

Yes, a very good point. But he did insist on Kalvin Phillips when them two didn’t come. He wasn’t back by going after them two though, I agree with you there.

HomieApathy

I thought the Philips loan was a good punt. I was very wrong.

Imagine finishing 9th. And reaching the Europa League quarter final. What an awful season.

ajgedrys

4 wins in the prem after December, 74 goals conceded which is most we ever conceded in a premier league season ever, most goals conceded outside the bottom 3, but yes what a great season that was…

PrisonersofFate

Of course it was. We beat Arsenal, Chelsea, United, Brighton, Tottenham, went to quarter of Europe. That was fun enough.

We signed more players over 30 in one summer under Lord Tim than in five years under Moyes.

He didn't get backed so that it looked acceptable to not give him a new contract.

You’re right, google is free, from West Ham’s own website

‘West Ham United can confirm David Moyes will leave the Club by mutual consent at the end of the 2023/24 season, when his contract expires.’

Mutual consent.

We won 4 games from December to May.

My stance on the Moyes debate and I’m only saying this once here.

He left by mutual agreement. He wasn’t sacked. As a man, a person, with dignity and self worth, he was left in the lurch by the board. It wasn’t fair to offer a contract to him and take it away, either offer it to him, or let him know sooner he’s not getting renewed. As an individual, the way he was treated, by the board, was disgusting.

But there were Moyes Out banners at away games, I remember them at Forest, Arsenal and Palace, I think. He had to go.

I agree with every word. But he didn’t want to sign the contract, and ultimately he didn’t and wanted to part ways. That’s the crux of my point, it was always mutual. I’m sick of the way people say we sacked him, ‘why did West Ham let Moyes go?’, it was always mutual.

His treatment of players was shocking, Benrahma, Scamacca, Haller to name a few. But I agree, he was just as much to blame for recruitment too, how many times he passed up on players to keep the same squad. Why he let Fornals go I’ll never know. But when he did have players, he never knew how to use them, the three named above apply

RoachEWS

It's funny that, because it was widely publicised that moyes and steidten were begging sullivan to cancel the fornals deal. But let's forget about that, shall we?

tomomalono [OP]

And to add to your point, you can pin point our downfall, was after the Frankfurt game. Admittedly, in that time, we had some good performances. But we were sub par for way of it. We stepped up in Europe, but that’s the hallmarks of a decent squad, you can compete on both fronts. Good runs in Europe have long papered over the cracks.

I remember Lyall out banners. Should he have gone? Ridiculous argument.

tomomalono [OP]

Have you even read the fucking point again?

Moyes left on mutual terms. Mutual agreement. I feel like a broken record.

He didn’t want to stay in the end? What’s that got to do with John Lyall staying or going if the fella didn’t want to stay in the end?
