Yes. Reddit is making sure not to have advertisements show on content that might put the advertiser in a bad light (like a person saying the n word after dying on the bridge).

heelydon

What? Did you read what the purpose is?

They explicitly in their announcement state that it is to avoid people accidentally stumbling upon content that would upset them. It is a proactive trigger warning.

That is what they said in order to not upset people, anyone with half a brain can see this is a move to get more adversiters.

Riiiiiiiiight, as if advertisers gives a shit about their ads being placed in a republican, democratic or sports subreddit.

If advertisers were that problematic to please, then Reddit would never function in the first place given its ad strategy.

Advertisers indeed give many shits about where their advertisements appear, as the average user associates the ad with the content. This is why the whole adpocalypse started.

Not really no. Youtube advertisers and an extremely small group at that, only started caring about their advertisements after activist groups started trying to "guilt by association" card the advertising groups for the youtube algorithm.

Hell, even by looking at the widely considered failure of how youtube's experiments with meeting these criticisms have gone, it becomes even further questionable as to why anyone would want to try and replicate it, not to mention through a handful of meaningless subreddits --- especially when it isn't even the purpose of the entire thing in the first place as per their own statement.

What you're saying is your own personal opinion and it doesn't reflect industry standards and requirements at all. Stop preaching about a subject you have no experience or knowledge of.

Common sense. People won't always tell you their true intentions, especially when they have something to lose by telling you them.

Am i missing something here? I don't see anything of what you listed banned, so what you said makes no sense.(unless you consider some of those crazy subs to be republican, but i don't)

Common sense.

Your "common sense" is to ignore their statement and substitude your own opinion it.

Just to be clear - there is no common sense in that.

You are missing something. I spoke in broad terms about if advertisers cared about politics on one side, politics on another and something broad which takes up most of the activity otherwise on reddit - the sports subreddits.

Within that field it is clear that if advertisers actually DID care, then their model on reddit would never had worked in the first place.

I know that the reddit advertising way for years have worked in that fashion and it has continued to grow. The way reddit works it is practically impossible for their advertisements to not be shown everywhere regardless, so advertising on reddit in the first place means that you merely reach the larger pools of people, which is ultimately exactly what advertisement desires.

In that sense, Gilette could care less if their advertisement is in /r/latestagecapitalism or in /r/sports

If we were to dig into that somehow NOT being a thing, then you'd automatically also have to question how advertisements are weighed, how they are shown on which subreddits and for which demographic it targets - something the reddit model doesn't work for.
