Question about Riki 's new ult

So does Riki's new ult purge dust, or would he still be dusted? As a corollary to that is his new ult more of a defensive or offensive spell? I could see it doing both.

With the way it's described, he basically uses Astral Imprisonment/ any other "leave the map" spell, and then every enemy in the aoe gets hit by an attack every once in a while. This means that the spell wouldn't purge anything, but it also means enemies can do literally nothing to stop him from channeling the full duration because he is untouchable.

Seems to limit the spells utility, but I guess low level pubs are gonna struggle against him enough as it is.

Riki + Magnus might be thing this patch. If Riki maintains empower during his ultimate then the synergy between the two heroes is pretty ridiculous...

Say you get a 5 man RP, all Riki needs is be at the action and cast his ultimate to get at least 3 hits (instantly on cast, with 2 seconds of stun remaining from RP easily) to do a shitload of damage to the entire enemy team...

I'm not sure if Empower cleaves Backstab damage or not, but this would still probably put out a shitload of damage, not to mention the fact that Riki can drop cloud before using his ult to keep the enemies inside for even longer.

Empty-Mind [OP]

I don't think backstabbing is cleaved, but even so it would be a lot of damage.

It is both. It doesn't purge, but its duration means that when you use it later on your invis and blink are both off CD, so it can help you get out of ganks (you should have manta or diffusal for dust).

It gives Riki some much-needed team-fight. I think he's going to be a lot of fun this patch. Played against an Arc Warden last night, who should be a really good counter to Riki - multiple necro books - but the new ulti is an extremely good answer to necro book. Which is nice!

There's no indication that it purges anything. Just makes you invisible and you channel it.

Not really defensive, they know where you are so if they have a ground targeted stun you won't be using it long. You can probably use it to force them back from a dive, but I generally see it entirely for offensive use in conjunction with things like Ravage, Overgrowth, Reverse Polarity etc.

Actually I want to see Riki + CM now.

See I read it as a omni slash/slight of fist style move where you are immune from taking damage. If that is not the mechanic, they did a ton of rework to make this hero shitty when he was already spectacular. They nerfed him across his entire skillset (leaving out combining the two skills) and stats, only to supplement him with this ult. It better bet great.

Edit: YouTube ftw https://youtu.be/Jiyduq609WY Definitely a Dodge spell. It disjoints you. I would really like to see this be shortened, but at the same time. 5 seconds is forever end game. Plus I am sure this goes through bkb.

I played a game with someone who went the new riki. He really sucks in lane now early game without his crazy regen during invis. His ult is also not that good in the early - mid good. But eventually the guy ended up going beyond godlike once he had some core items up. I can see it being really good for mid-late game fights if you have any sort of AOE crowd control on your team.

Lazarous86

Good info. Do you know if you can use items while you are in your ult phase? If you could use a diffusal so someone couldn't run out of it? I am also thinking Orb of Venom is a must have item early. S&Y is a core item now with all the stat reductions to strength and agi. Plus maim doesn't have an internal cooldown like a basher would.

aznscourge

Hmm i'm not really sure about using items. I think it will apply any orb effects you have but I don't know about actually activating items during that time. I imagine it's probably a no, sort of like Jugg Ult where you'd activate your MoM before entering omnislash. I was too busy testing out radiant jungling with Iron Talon to pay too much attention to what exactly riki was building, but I think it was your standard riki build with S&Y. I just remember it being really funny because the riki was complaining for the first 20-30 minutes about how terrible the hero and the new ult are now, and then all of a sudden he started freaking out about how good it was.

-sideshow-

Anything that procs off attacks will work. You could diffusal someone then ult, but it's only an attack a second: you only want to use it to get out of trouble or if there are multiple enemies. If there's just one enemy you're much better off just hitting them. It is good for getting a last hit when chasing early on, as it gives you a hit as soon as you push the button

-sideshow-

Having blink back to a basic ability makes him stronger in lane, though the stat nerfs might mean he's not as good as 6.81. Need to play him more.

My initial reading of the spell, I basically pictured Slark Ult meets Sleight of Fist, but the gif I saw of the spell showed it as a channeled spell. So I assume Fissure, Ravage, Light Strike Array etc. will all interrupt the spell.

I think the reason it mentions it makes him invisible (forget the exact wording) is just so that there's no confusion as to whether or not the channel "locks" permanent invisibly from fading you out. With this you just disappear and go on a stabbing frenzy.

Slarks ult specifically state it "makes you immune to detection", so re-reading both abilities, I'm 90% confident Riki can be easily stopped

cerealkillr

I think he is actually removed from the map, but he can cancel the channel at any time to blink strike out or walk away, immediately ending the effect.

Electric999999

The channeling is like puck's phase shift, noone can stop it but him.

stakoverflo

Thanks for the clarification.

I don't care about being downvoted, but it irks me when people don't reply to explain why or correct me...

Pretty sure he phases out while channeling, then slight of fists everyone from behind simultaneously.

That being said, its not something I see myself skilling early. While it can be nice to cast to 1) last hit on a gank or 2) get counter-rotations to back off while waiting for blink to CD so you can escape, I see it mostly as a teamfight-y thing that'll be incredibly useful for high ground fights, since it effectively covers most of the stairs up. If it procs on-hit effects like slight of fist, then its going to be straight up bonkers, especially in combination with someone like mag.

stakoverflo

It should apply on hit effects, it says "attacking every enemy from behind" so you get your Bsckstab bonus.

I don't play Riki often but honestly it sounds like it does great damage at all ranks. Especially if you are in fact "untouchable" while channeling.

Hit 6, go roam to a lane, Blink + Smoke Screen in, ult, then a few seconds later Blink is back up and you pick off the straggler.

8s CD at rank 3, 4s CD on Blink at rank 4 so at level 7 you blink in, stab stab stab, blink kill in an instant.

bfury isn't worth it, IMO. Since the backstab damage doesn't cleave, you're better off just buffing target stuff with basher/agi items.

Actually, I think that Skadi will be a HUGE pickup on riki now. I used to get it in games where I needed a bit of fat, but with his new ult, smoke into stabs is pretty crazy with that added slow.

After a handful of riki games, I can confirm that he plays nearly the same, but punishes bad play more while giving you more flexibility early on.

The new ult is a goddamn miracle - it fixes rikis biggest late-game weakness, melting in teamfights. With a skadi you can blink in, right click a few times, smoke, ult, and remain relevant for far more time than you have any business being relevant as a super squishy agi right clicker.

Now I need to determine itemization: should skadi come immedately after yasha, or should you get SNY first? I'm thinking that the skadi is a better pickup, since an orb gives you a bit less hp than a sange, but it gives you a ton of agi and int, which riki needs a lot of early on.

I'm feeling this build order: OOV, PMS, Treads, Diffu, Yasha, Skadi, SNY, Basher. Game should be over at that point.

Empty-Mind [OP]

I was thinking stalling for your team to counterinitiate, but I guess the duration is probably too short.

Also, I thought it phased, not invisibly so you can't be stunned.
