Love it, honestly love to see channels that are just simple and to the point raw footage get attention. No stupid thumbnails, intros, reaction shots, memes. Just solid interesting content.
Importantly no advertisements!
Jump to ~40min mark for the explanation how the next selected gear racing against the currently engaged gear forces disengagement of the current gear, thereby constituting seamless torque transfer.
It's a cool design. Interesting that engine breaking speeds up downshifts.
I prefer engine braking to engine breaking ;)
Lol. IIRC there were teething problems when Honda first started running this transmission where both gears would lock at the same time or they had trouble down shifting. That was engine breaking.
I see this a lot. Is it a typo/ autocorrect, or do Americans actually spell brakes as breaks?
Very cool. Interesting it doesn't last very long.
What a brilliant walkthrough, the concepts are simple but the team to designed this setup are geniuses. Simple ideas combined to make a super elegant solution.
Compare this to something like a DSG gearbox. Very clever.
Can this guy get into trouble for this?
Engineerings firms exist to do nothing but reverse engineer, steal ideas, and design slight changes to avoid patent infringments.
Only if he tries to monetize the design. At worst case Honda sees he is making money from views and gives him a seize and desist. But doing best guess reverse engineering from public drawings is not really illegal in this case.
Thx for the answer, though. That's what I wanted to know.
i think they only could go afte rhim if he makes money from selling the endproduct/parts, not by monetizing the video - it would fall under education i would assume
Not even any ads on his video. Possible reason why.
No. He's doing it for fun.
There was a guy (maybe this is him?) who designed a functional seamless shift F1 gearbox in 1:1 scale just using his brain, a 3D printer, and some CAD software. No engineering drawings to reverse engineer that sucker.
Brilliant,thanks for sharing!
So smart system. I looked at patent in 2014 for days and got some hints so that works. But see this guy too break it down like that. :D amazing work.
I'd love to test it on track and see the difference!
I just watched an hour long video without noticing time flying by. Nice work there.
