Something like "Serious Sam" as an (M)MO(RP)G would be pretty fun too, I think ... in case anyone needs an idea

BirdFluid

Yeah, that's right. But this way I can build the extension and the app and everything around it the way I want and fit it into my setup / way of working.

BirdFluid

Just looked at the website, yeah it's similar to what I had built for me.

BirdFluid

at some point I had Claude build me my own VSCode extension (based on the Anthropic Claude extension). The next stage was that my extension could serve its own browser/mobile version (so I can use it on my iPhone / iPad too), and the current stage is a native iOS app that pulls its data from the VSCode extension.

Runs in a code-server environment (always on) and for work on my work laptop. Basically like /remote but local. And I can have all kinds of features built into my app/extension (hiding unnecessary output, shortcuts ...)

Bambu has slipped a bit, but I still have plenty of trust in them (way more than I ever had in Creality), and my X1C for instance is still running fine.

BirdFluid

Yeah I was so close to buying one (EinScan Rigil or Creality Sermoon P1 / P1S) but I swore to myself I'm not giving Creality any more money. Now I'm waiting for the Bambu scanner.

That's mostly because the input comes from people who have "no" (technical) clue. But I think as soon as 1-2 people with good technical knowledge/understanding are involved and deliver the right inputs/questions, something usable can come out of it. Especially since you always have to distinguish whether something is used only internally or is made available externally (sold).

I work for a "small" company and we build software for customers with 1 to 999 users. I'm pretty sure that around this time next year we'll have customers cancelling because they're going to spend the next 6 to 12 months getting AI to rebuild the software for them. Especially the customers who are already "unhappy". Our software obviously has a ton of detailed "knowledge" baked in that came out of the last 30 years and out of customer requirements. You don't just rebuild that with AI in 2 weeks, but hardly any customers actually use more than 50% of our software.

Will generally be interesting to see how the software industry changes over the next few years. Will definitely become more of a service business, and more about selling the how/why instead of the software itself.

I get it with "old" projects. There's a lot of heart and soul in there sometimes. But AI doesn't mean it has to be bad quality, rejecting it across the board is something I consider bad practice. At work I have both, main product where new code has to fit with the rest. For that you need to know the old code and decide whether the changes are correct or necessary. Meaning we do code review over 90% of the time. But we use AI heavily, which unfortunately leads to code output being higher than the time available for code reviews.

But we also have new projects that are 100% vibe coded, and those get used in production too. There the expectation isn't to know the code but the architecture and how it works. But even there the quality has to be right (tests, automated code reviews, and so on).

The only thing that bugs me right now is that every day there are 1000 people posting "here" saying "I built xyz". it wouldn't occur to me to bother other people with my "garbage". 301st audio player, sure go ahead and make it, but nobody cares. Out of 1000 posts, 1 or 2 are interesting, the rest isn't worth the bytes.

Those usually all have detection built in and go to sleep when nothing happens (location still gets sent periodically though). I barely use my car in summer and the plug stays connected the whole time, and I haven't had a battery problem in the last ~10 years. No problem on the motorcycle either. A lot of these trackers also have a backup battery, so they can still send even if someone disconnects the battery or pulls the plug.

And no, I'm just using this for myself

I got OBD2 GPS trackers for the car/motorcycle from AliExpress, and a 10 year IoT SIM, combined with Home Assistant and Traccar. Works surprisingly well, but it's a bit tricky to set up. The upside though is I don't have to worry about battery and stuff.

There are also "ready to go" OBD2 GPS trackers including SIM and a platform to use. Then the setup is a bit easier. There are also ones with a built in battery that you can hide somewhere else in the car.

Or what could also work (no idea how practical that is): just stick an old phone in the car and hook it up to a permanent power source somewhere, plus the HA Companion app and a cheap SIM card.

6 months ago that would've bothered me. now Claude Code just gets to build me a clone, one that's 100% tailored to my needs. and this time next year I'll have already forgotten I ever used Portainer.

BirdFluid

the problem can't be that bad, as long as we're able to wage wars that burden and poison the environment (and that includes military and its surroundings in general)

BirdFluid

same and surname.xyz as playground

BirdFluid

but I really had to think hard about which channel that was, even though it wasn't that long ago

BirdFluid

doesn't look bad, what's missing for me is more export options. specifically (svg) color grouping. like it's possible here for example. https://vectorizer.ai/api/outputOptions#group-by

The only thing that comes to mind is this. https://www.jjgeorgestore.com/the-smarter-scrubber/

The video about it is also pretty interesting. Also regarding manufacturing

I had Claude rewrite the tools I use and build new ones from scratch. Most of them are hooked into each other via MCP.

Amazon MCP (incl. access to account / orders)
simple label printer to unify all my label printers in one interface + MCP
inventory/asset management, can read in Amazon items/orders via MCP, prints labels / QR codes via MCP

finance overview, gets fed automatically from my banking app's data + MCP

the nice part is Claude can actually use the MCPs too. I can basically tell Claude to print me a QR code in format xy and it automatically picks the right label printer for it. or for taxes, ask my finance MCP if I've missed something.

The goal is to build even more tools (new ones) and hook them together even more. to automate as much of the unnecessary "crap" as possible

It's sorted out now. The only thing I hadn't done was restart the iPad. Now it's working again. No idea what that was...

BirdFluid

yeah works. I got jawbreaker style pads from AliExpress. I just did something around the metal prongs so the pad holds better. and if you got lenses with prescription in them and you take them in and out a lot, you gotta peel off the pad every time, cause the bridge in the middle covers the holes for the lens insert.

thanks, sent you guys an email

BirdFluid

maybe I'm just too biased on this as a software developer

u/XREAL_Esther u/Xreal_Tech_Support Are there any known issues with the new firmware? My One Pro stop working with my iPad mini (7/A17 Pro) after the OTA update, under Windows 11 / iPad Pro they still work. Between yesterday and today only the OTA update happened.

Is there a way to downgrade?
