Lets look at this scenario:

Person 1: running red lights is bad

Person 2: You think running red lights is bad? can you be more specific? How would you rank how bad it is relative to genocide?

It can be implied that person 2 thinks that running red lights is not bad.

Making jokes about people in power is inherently different about making jokes about people who aren't in power.

Scenario 1) Poor stand up comedian makes a joke about imprisoning billionaires

Scenario 2) billionaire makes a joke about imprisoning all poor people

Scenario 1 is more socially acceptable because we know that billionaires have more power. there are A LOT of steps between our society now and actually imprisoning billionaires.

Scenario 2 is less socially acceptable because billionaires do have the power to imprison poor people. It is an actual issue that is affect people's lives. Its less a joke and more bragging
