You mean higher damages? You can ask for whatever you want in non-economic (pain and suffering) damages. You just have to convince a jury (or, sometimes, a judge) to award it.
Punitive damages are much more difficult to allege and to prove. And the plaintiff only gets to keep 30% of punitive damage awards. The rest goes to the state crime victim’s fund.

Ugh, that second screen is the Sinclair Propaganda Network. Deeply biased BS.
ThisDerpForSale
Glad you’re happy with it! I’m not really enjoying the national broadcast, but for one night, I can deal with it.

I don’t completely disagree, but I think you underestimate the stranglehold the billionaire class has on the Republican party. It doesn’t matter what his philosophy is - the GOP no longer truly follows any guiding principles. They are a party of billionaires, billionaire toadies, neo-fascists and nihilistic edge lords. Money, power and cruelty are all that matters.
ThisDerpForSale
Yes, absolutely. It showed his growth. I can’t believe so many people don’t understand this.
ThisDerpForSale
This again?
ThisDerpForSale
Eventually, though, he’ll be lionized by the party no matter what. They’re years in to efforts to rehabilitate Nixon. It’s now an article of faith among hard right republicans that Nixon was railroaded. Eventually, Trump will be part of their wall of fame too.

The alternative process in the US is a preliminary hearing, before a judge, which is sort of a mini trial in which the question is merely whether the state has probable cause to move forward on the charges. While most preliminary hearings result in the charges moving forward, the rate is nowhere near as high as with grand juries, in which 99%+ of cases go forward.
ThisDerpForSale
Exactly. This is precisely the purpose of grand juries as envisioned by the framers of the constitution. But the system so rarely works as a true check on state power that’s almost shocking the extent to which it is working with this regime.
ThisDerpForSale
Phrasing?
ThisDerpForSale
Or that the skilled prosecutors have all quit or have been fired. Or refused to take this case to grand jury, and were then fired.

And comparing Utah fans to the alleged Charlie Kirk shooter is intensely fucked up. What a fucking snowflake dickbag.
ThisDerpForSale
And just maybe the brain worm.
ThisDerpForSale
I don’t think we’re actually disagreeing on much here. Suffice it to say that the post office is a vital national service and it is a mistake, and often a malicious attack, to view it solely through a revenue generating lens.
ThisDerpForSale
This asshole compares getting mocked by college students to the shooting of Charlie Kirk?? What a pathetic fucking snowflake he is. Yikes.
ThisDerpForSale
RIP Meriwether’s.
ThisDerpForSale
Delete this embarrassing bullshit.

Not sure what you mean, but I don’t think you understand. If DJ ends with everyone on zero, there’s no FJ and so obviously no tie breaker. If FJ ends with everyone on zero, there is no winner at all, and so no tie breaker.
You cannot win with zero dollars. So no, there would not be a tie breaker if FJ ended with everyone at zero.
ThisDerpForSale
That’s clearly not the point, though. No one expects the military to generate revenue. The same should be true if the USPS - it’s also a vital national service.
ThisDerpForSale
A classic clip. And oof, that was some terrible wagering by third place.
ThisDerpForSale
That wouldn't happen today. Any ties after FJ lead to a tie breaker question.
And as the other commenter said, you must have money to win. If everyone has 0, no one wins.
ThisDerpForSale
Yeah, people tend to procrastinate in dropping off ballots, especially in non-presidential elections. I can’t give specific numbers, but we seem to have this discussion around many elections.
ThisDerpForSale
To be clear, in the story you linked to, the USPS isn’t rejecting the ballots. They are simply too slow in processing mail in rural areas that have had mail service cuts, leading to postmarks not being added as quickly, which results in more mail being post marked beyond Election Day, the consequence being more ballots rejected by elections officials for arriving too late.
Ironically, this is likely to affect conservative voters at a higher rate, these being more rural areas.
I certainly wasn’t blaming you. Just a strong reaction.
