Thank you. As someone who became chronically ill because of Covid, this needed said. I feel seen and I’m grateful for your comment.
Upper_Importance6263
You have been told multiple times in multiple comments.
Upper_Importance6263
Well they’ll either be a pretty brown color, or they could be a light blue green. I’m going to guess a pink/brown
Upper_Importance6263
Umm, yes. Lol. I have 25 years experience not only in dogs but a mass array of animals. All farm animals, domestic animals, and a licensed wildlife rehabber for over a decade. What I have never had is a small breed, vermin driven terrier. I’ve housed and treated dogs like chihuahuas, spaniels, etc over the years. Jack Russell’s will be new to me (dealt with mixes as far as getting them out of bad situations, finding fosters, rehoming, etc. where I live the only type of pack extermination I’ll be able to hire is bear or raccoon dogs.
I’ve posted throughout this post that my intent is going to be for working dogs, but I do not have nor have I ever had an animal that isn’t pampered far more than necessary. Hence why I’m asking how well these dogs will do with a working task even though they’re not going to be treated as many hunting working animals are.
Also, money is of no concern to me. My animals have and always will be provided with everything above and beyond their needs, no matter the cost. And I’ve already been reaching out to trainers. In the end, I posted here hoping to hear from others on their experiences (especially if they’ve raised JRTs from pups in the presence of chickens or turkeys, the quails won’t be in the immediate presence of the dogs) and advice on the most comforting living situations, etc, for working terriers that will end up being overly loved.
Edit: I should have put this in the body of the post. I currently have a 5 year old Rottweiler who I’ve had since 5wks old, an extreme quantity of chickens and quail, 5 turkeys, 2 goats, 6 whitetail deer, one chipmunk, one Virginia opossum, and just received 3 gray squirrels who’s mother was killed so they’re newborns. The opossum is in transition for reintegration to the wild. The whitetails are mostly reintegrated but choose to remain on our property (they stay within a 20 acre area even though they have an entire mountain to relocate around) the chipmunk was attacked and lost part of his foot as an infant, he has his own enclosure of replicated forest which is his forever home since he can not survive in the wild. He’ll live there til he dies, and nothing can get in to him. The squirrels will spend around 6 months with us, maybe longer cause I won’t start reintegration until it warms up in the spring, then they’ll go to the far side of our farm (approx 3 miles) to create their own lives. Point being for them, the dogs will also not be around them nor capable of socializing, meeting, and so on.

Hi. This is fake. I know you don’t believe it, but it is. Sorry
Upper_Importance6263
Thank you for saying this! I feel the exact same way. I’ve said numerous times I would never want to be forced to live in that manner.
Upper_Importance6263
She looks like a mixture of my cinnamon queen and starlight green egger lol. She’s pretty. I’d lean cinnamon queen. Definitely not Welsummer

Chickens are notoriously good at hiding their pain. This chicken is in pain. If you truly don’t want to part with her she needs immediate veterinary attention. If you’re in an area like mine, that’s not an easy task. For the sake of this bird, do not let her live like this.
Upper_Importance6263
Interesting. Thank you for this. I’ll do more research before taking the plunge. I’ve got jerseys, bielefelders, Indio giants, etc. if they can handle a turkey though, I definitely don’t think the chickens would stand a chance
Upper_Importance6263
Thank you!! That’s good to hear because I can’t help myself when it comes to my animals. I have to give them the best lives because they deserve it. These will definitely be the smallest dogs I’ve ever had but I’m excited for that, it’ll be like permanent puppies, lol.
Upper_Importance6263
Aww thank you lol! I certainly hope so! I’m so excited lol
Upper_Importance6263
I agree, I’m thinking early introduction and raising them with the chickens. I have a wildlife rescue and I’ve had some very interesting “best friend” pairs lol
Upper_Importance6263
I didn’t even think of that! That is perfect! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you invited me here
Upper_Importance6263
You are awesome, thank you so much for this information
Upper_Importance6263
This is amazing, thank you! I’m definitely wanting very young, that way they can get accustomed to living around chickens lol.
Upper_Importance6263
What do you think about large birds? I do have a couple of smaller breeds but the majority of my chickens are extremely large breeds.
Im thinking of getting two jacks, puppies or at least young that way chickens will be a norm for them. I’ve reached out to trainers, too. This will be my first time working with small dogs.
Upper_Importance6263
I live in the northeast United States. My dog training skills are extensive…. But never with small dogs. I did reach out to two trainers so far, though. I’m more than willing to put in the time/money. I just need all the advice/lived experience I can get lol. I live in the wilderness. It’s extremely remote, so you’d think rat terrier packs would be common but unfortunately not. We do have people who will bring out raccoon or bear dog packs, but nothing smaller unfortunately.
Upper_Importance6263
Oh my gosh I’m obsessed 🤣❤️ I’ve been doing a lot of research, and I’ve already contacted two different trainers lol
Upper_Importance6263
Thank you!!! I’ll make a detailed post ☺️
Upper_Importance6263
This is so adorable.
I’ve been lurking here since you invited me over u/RoRuRee and I’m so dead set on bringing a jack russell into the family.
I’ll take any and all advice! I really want a terrier to train for rat control, we also have a small elusive weasel issue. For that reason I’d want to be able to keep him/her mainly outside but I’ve never successfully had an outside dog lol. I always end up keeping them inside and turning them into babies.
Any info on these adorable babes, what they like and don’t like, and how they’re housed as “working dogs” would be appreciated 💕💕
Upper_Importance6263
I had already saw it before I commented and you commented to me.. so yes, it was said before that lol.
Upper_Importance6263
Thank you!!! Joining now. I appreciate all the tips and pointers, you’ve comforted me in this decision☺️
Upper_Importance6263
If I do get one that’s specifically what it’d be for so I’d absolutely start with a puppy to be trained in the presence of the birds. My chickens will literally stand up to let the rat pass by them lol they are the laziest birds. The turkeys kill them, but I can’t keep the turkeys with the chickens anymore because one hen decided she would like to pluck the chickens.
I spoil my animals so much, and I can’t help it. So getting a jack Russell has been an idea for months now, I just haven’t pulled the trigger because I want to make sure I can give it the life it deserves while also letting it be a working dog lol.
It’s okay! A lot of people see it as less of a risk now. Covid shut down my immune system and hospitalized me for half a year. Now I have no immune system and mixed connective tissue disease. If I get sick I am stuck back in the hospital for months at a time 😮💨 I hate covid.
People like Chynna disgust me. Especially when there are people truly suffering out here while she lies, uses it as an excuse and a cry for attention.
