It was an exercise in extreme frustration to try and argue with people at the time that not only was the ABK acquisition bad for the industry, but imo bad for Xbox too. It's just ridiculous levels of consolidation. Zenimax was already massive. There aren't words for how big adding ABK was. These levels of acquisition don't tend to lead to good things

Actually when Reddit reopened old threads, that post got inundated with very new comments. Like, genuinely flooded to the point where it was difficult to see the original comments from 11 years ago. I think eventually moderators might’ve gone back and mass deleted comments - you can see the deleted ones are almost all from 1 to 2 years ago.

I think the population plateau isn't based in hard resource constraints, but rather other forces such as economics. Similar to how the birth rate of countries drops as they become better off, even though there is still plenty of technical "room" for growth.

I think the prevailing models and theories show a plateau at ~11 billion humans and then decline from there, if I remember correctly.

I read that intelligent people are able to rationalise dumb positions better than most, entrenching themselves in those beliefs. So then "smart" becomes a much more holistic combination of intelligence, wisdom, empathy, open mindedness, etc. Then you could have all of those and be willfully ignorant in order to avoid psychological pain, to fit in, or many other factors like just being caught in a total echo chamber.

So I totally believe when people say they know a smart person with a dumb take. But I feel your pain.

This thread is funny. Half the commenters smelling something fishy or unexplained, the other half sharing their stories of ghosted parties. I have to say I kind of fall into the former (re more to the story). While on such a large community like reddit you're sure to find plenty of people who've experienced similar situations of no-shows, it's just so incredibly unusual it definitely raises an eyebrow. 40(ish) down to 6... definitely either one of those freak coincidences or something else.

Yep, ironing and prep and all the other fun stuff. I looked at my time and realised I would rather pay more for meals than lose as much as I was. Even then I don't pay a ton more (it's not like restaurant meals daily) but I get so much time back it's entirely worth it to me. What's the point of earning the money I do if my entire life is consumed by either my job or preparing for my job ugh

I feel this. I've really tried everything with cooking and the factor that makes me hate it all is purely the time. Either my entire evenings or a huge chunk of the weekend is gone and both are not nice.

It reads a lot like how we used to discriminatingly talk about people who were different or had conditions (like diabetes!) in the past. The lack of empathy is surprising - we now look at these as factors outside of the person's control. How is this phobia any different? How do you know he hasn't tried treatment, or if it's even treatable?

I don't know, I know it may not be intended this way but it feels mean spirited. James really did try and I'm absolutely sure he can find a workplace without blood. I've literally never seen someone prick blood at work my entire life and I've never avoided it.
