SOME black people have higher incidences of sickle cell anemia. This is mostly people with Sub-saharan African ancestry. However the problem with such a broad "racial" category like "black", is that it includes all Africans who are not sub-saharan and do not belong to this particular segment.
White people have a higher incidence of skin cancer because of the physical properties of their skin and melanin pigment. That has nothing to do with race, as asians with higher skin will get skin cancer similar to your typical caucasian, while those with darker skin will have decreased rates. In dermatology, we classify all patients purely on their skin types (Fitzpatrick typing) as opposed to "race" because it doesn't matter here.
Yes, Ashkenazi Jews do have significantly increased risk, however notice how they are caucasians who are actually classified based on their ethnicity and not their race. Many "white" people are split into their ethnic ancestries, while black people are all somehow lumped into one group. The way people justify racial pre-disposition in medicine is like saying white people are predisposed to Gaucher type 1, Fanconi anemia, etc, when we all know it's only a subsegment of that population. Why do black people, a descriptor based purely on skin color, who are equally genetically diverse in their population as white people, get medically lumped into a single "race" based solely on a single phenotype (their skin color)?
