Merci beaucoups.

Now I'm curious. I do find existing UIs and also ones I've made myself really clunky. I go for sliders rather than knobs by default, am with you on the over-skeumorphism. Please make the stuff open source. You probably know already, but if not, Google "Euclidian sequences".
danja
Ooh, good fellow! As a rubbish bass player I think I'll appreciate this. Thanks for remembering the Linux build.
danja
A new approach to me, thanks, must investigate.

Been there. This thing guided by AI over MCP is ridiculous : https://danja.github.io/valis/ (Although the best thing it's made so far is total last century, a TR-909 emulator).
danja
I think that is why they were asking. I had various fresh ideas for plugins pre-AI, which got implemented in a matter of hours post-AI. Turned out not to be so interesting after all. Random trivial thoughts though - had success there.
danja
Challenge for you. I was just asking about this on other subs - metal bashing. Like this : https://youtu.be/ls5ff7B-JUk Nearest I've got is modal, kalimba-like, through distortion.
Making plugins is now really good fun. I'm now up to about 70 : https://danja.github.io/downspout/

Oh, you darling! This is just the kind of thing that got me excited when I started. Raw PCM, yay!
If I understand you correctly, the robotic multiplication sound you have is known as ring modulation. It produces the sum & difference of the input frequencies.
You should really look into the Fourier stuff - there are plenty of Java etc libs for it. Shift things into the frequency domain, mess them up, shift back to time domain, really good fun.
Go for it, dude!
danja
It seems a very expensive way of getting what it sounds like you're looking for. Might not an actual (cheap) tube pre-amp/distortion, or even miking a guitar amp give you the same results?
danja
Thanks, I hadn't thought of 'Sense and Sensibility' in that way. The shared etymology is obviously there, nice example of meaning drift.

For what it's worth, I used to argue against the predominance of the browser, on the basis that there was a tendency towards it being a straightjacketed environment. Better to start with native apps, give them the desirable connectivity. But then mobile phones came along, full of single-purpose apps that have some degree of connectivity, but exist as islands, the interop gets lost. There is also the major point that even with wasm the performance overhead of being in such a container can be up to 50%. But now I'd argue that's no longer the bottleneck, machines are fast enough that it's no longer such a big issue. The communications have become the bottleneck. There are also advantages in using a container, behaviour is more easily ringfenced. Having said all that, I don't think we're actually at a point where the DAW browser Is there yet. I've been building one and it's really hard to get the UI friendly, compared to native apps. I use Reaper day-to-day, despite being able to (in theory) control everything in this homemade DAW. I honestly don't know where this leads.

I might have had a different use of standalone. For me it means localhost, the computer on your desk. I agree there are bottlenecks in using the web right now, but I'd suggest they are mostly cultural, there are plenty of protocols for shifting data around quickly.
danja
You said it yourself - standalone. I'd like to be able to collaborate with people at a distance. I don't think it's quite possible yet, latency, eh. But we are getting there. And the web exists as an infrastructure.
danja
It's a specification, a bunch of documents that might be of interest here. No personal gain, no business interest or whatever. I just think it's a good idea worth sharing.
danja
Nah, you lost me. I picked up general negativity, but I haven't a clue about the motivation. I usually use Reaper on quite a slow machine, I know about latency. I use the DAW as a compositional tool and a recording device (I play guitar and clarinet, both badly, Eurorack slightly better). Browsers are the front end of the Web, which is the greatest knowledge base humanity has constructed, anything to further that cause seems worthwhile. Explain your problem(s) please.
danja
Thanks. As it happens I have a secondary reason in being curious. A friend recently bought a new house here, is trying to also get a paddock behind it. He had talked self-sufficiency, but digging it seems he really wants a field of saffron.

What might be usable for your channel - I regularly do YouTube vids of live solo jams, works in progress. Here's today's : https://youtu.be/KHuFpWyeUH8

I don't think you need much maths at all. I did study a lot, back in the day. Knowing the general shape of a tanh visually will do me now. I can't remember much about matrix operations, just something over here gets multiplied by something over there. General rough idea. But knowing any programming language allows you to gain a lot of insight - for that, ok Python, especially through the Notebooks. I suggest googling for a Google Collab script for a neural net, then playing with it.

Many years ago I had a French girlfriend, I'm English. In circumstances I won't go into, she used the word "sensible" when she meant "sensitive". She asked me later why I nearly cracked out laughing. Was very angry when I told her, I should have corrected her. I now live in Italy, my Italian is very bad. I appreciate being corrected in moderation. The equivalent of "sheeps", I'd want to know.
Decimal note freqs - kinda microtonal scales? How does it sound?
