PS. Just tried it, preceded by Basilico, a plugin that can make a couple of good bass sounds, many bad ones. Picking Fingers somehow manages to make even some of the bad sounds come out pretty good. Nice work!

danja

Neat. I must try. Also has to be said : every plugin deserves a Randomise button! Vaguely related, this thing I made on a whim the other day might amuse you, genetic melodies : https://strandz.it/melogen/

danja

Sweet! I hadn't thought of using MCP in that part of the process, seems obvious now you've pointed it out.

I'm curious about your manifests, because as I mentioned above I've been working on a plugin format, and a key part of that is using Plugin Profiles - https://danja.github.io/jigdaw/plugin-profiles.html which are descended from LV2 descriptions of plugins, listing ports etc. I'm wondering if there's crossover with your manifests.

danja

Looks good, this interests me a lot. Apart from wanting to try it for building plugins, I'd also like to pick your brains a little about how the UIs are made.

I've been working on a web-native plugin format specification, Jig : https://danja.github.io/jigdaw

Typically there will be a compiled DSP core (eg from Rust), and quasi-independently a UI that sits in the browser. My initial attempts at UIs came out rather lacking, so I added some support for SVG skins. Now I'm wondering if your approach might carry across. There's an outline of the current bits at : https://github.com/danja/jigdaw/blob/main/docs%2Fui.md

Any thoughts or suggestions you have will be much appreciated.

danja

That makes sense. Respect.

Ah, ok, I'd likely be depressed too, if I ran a virtual instrument co. But it's only relatively small segments of the market lost to AI : home builders & cheapskates (I am both :) Anyone wanting to be professional about things is still going to look for products with a bit of professionalism about them, be willing to pay for the quality.

danja

Aaargh, no Linux version. But it sounds good. I made a drum kit myself (with Claude's help) which I use all the time. Only thing is I'm sick to death of the toms & cowbell sounds. May have to give it another cycle.

danja

Touché

danja

They look really good, sorry I'm unlikely to buy, need a Linux version & $s. What is it about them that you would say makes them notable?

danja

Ooh, nice one! I'll be playing with that this afternoon.

danja

I had to look it up - Pro-53 = Prophet VST, ok. (I will also have to look up Cmajor). So Pro-54 sounds promising! Did you have any source to inform the assistants, reverse engineering somehow, or just going from the manuals?

I recommend sticking it on GitHub whatever, however incomplete, even if you don't tell anyone. It's a very convenient off-site backup. A bonus is you can get GitHub Actions CI to build packages for all platforms automatically (although my own remain untested apart from the Linux I have locally).

danja

Oh yeah! Can't really tell the intonation difference, seems just like harmonics. But that tune lifted my mood for the day, thank you!

danja

Back at you, I lived in sarf London for a while, yesterday's solo jam : https://youtu.be/KHuFpWyeUH8

danja

Just a thought : what you have there could potentially behave like growls - the EDM crowd might go for it. This kind of thing is surprisingly difficult to get working out if the box : https://youtu.be/suxAlIvHrk8

danja

Go on, open source now. My things are mostly not better than they are, but I see no reason not to put them out there. There may be ideas you can lift, and/or ideas I can lift from yours. https://danja.github.io/downspout/

danja

The listens are nice. I'd switch it so you hear the raw first. It does sound very good, quite peaky band passes? Like vocal formants? Unfortunately I'm on Linux and don't have a spare $50 anyway.

danja

Yeah, that is pretty fucked up. Love it! Subscribed.

danja

It was boring, but now everyone and their dog can make plugins, there's bound to be some interesting things coming through. Next problem is filtering them.

PS. I made https://plugin-universe.com/ because I wanted to find interesting things. It has similarity search. Many things are very similar!

danja

Decimal note freqs - kinda microtonal scales? How does it sound?

danja

Merci beaucoups.

danja

Now I'm curious. I do find existing UIs and also ones I've made myself really clunky. I go for sliders rather than knobs by default, am with you on the over-skeumorphism. Please make the stuff open source. You probably know already, but if not, Google "Euclidian sequences".

danja

Ooh, good fellow! As a rubbish bass player I think I'll appreciate this. Thanks for remembering the Linux build.

danja

A new approach to me, thanks, must investigate.

danja

Been there. This thing guided by AI over MCP is ridiculous : https://danja.github.io/valis/ (Although the best thing it's made so far is total last century, a TR-909 emulator).

danja

I think that is why they were asking. I had various fresh ideas for plugins pre-AI, which got implemented in a matter of hours post-AI. Turned out not to be so interesting after all. Random trivial thoughts though - had success there.
