If Eisenkot wins, he will proceed to continue Israel’s war the way Netanyahu has, which ends the idea that the problem is just Netanyahu’s government BUT does not prove that the problem is Israeli culture as a whole.

If Israelis re-elect Eisenkot or Netanyahu at the following election, that will prove the problem is at least the system of Israeli politics.

But if Eisenkot makes inconsistent moves about the war during his term, or if Likud replaces Netanyahu with someone who makes inconsistent positions about the war during Eisenkot’s term, either of them can be re-elected with Israelis still getting the benefit of the doubt globally as their culture or political system.

And so this story will proceed, until all the Palestinians are dead and dispossessed. It will all be designed to give them enough time for that.

Raise land taxes. Fed government has the power to do it, and they did levy land tax for a long time.

Australian income taxes are much higher than OECD average, but we are absolutely shit at taxing assets like land and resources. No one is suggesting increasing income taxes, hell they can come down. But we have got to increase our land tax and resources taxes.

And yeah businesses protect their owners’ assets from legal liability. Employees generally don’t have significant assets, they just have their salaries which are effectively massively exposed in our society.

Businesses also have the safe harbour rule, taxation avoidance structures, better access to deductibles, etc.

Because some individuals sit on monopoly rents, that’s not the exclusive preserve of huge corpos.

So there’s the value of the land/resources, and then there’s the value of the work to improve/extract it. We already know how to split these, it’s not that complicated. Something is still worth doing even if you don’t personally know how it works.

How about we don’t tax people while they’re working, and just tax them when they’re not and sitting idly on their monopoly rents?

They can keep the value of their labour but they didn’t make the value of what’s lying under our feet, that belongs to all of us.

Yep, I think a fair chunk of people on this sub are right wing libertarian non-landowners who, credit to them, like the idea of low taxes on themselves, but beyond that could give maybe one shit about the policy prescription for high land tax but no shits for the expansion of the principle to taxes on rents charged by other monopolies or oligopolies.
