Thank you! Yeah, setting ui.textScaleFactor to Number, then 150 fixed it!

Now Firefox ignores the number set in Xft.dpi, right?

Also a related question, for a 14" 1920x1080 screen, what should be the value of Xft.dpi so I wouldn't have to change firefox's defaults?

friedrichRiemann

Thanks, I added a reply.

friedrichRiemann

I'm on Debian 12 + i3wm. I've set Xft.dpi: 157 in ~/.Xresources. I've reported a similar issue here.

Prior to v131, the UI and webpages were getting rendered fine. Now, Github doesn't show the right section of its UI as if a 110% zoom is in place.

If I set layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 0.93, Github's rightside ui gets rendered (at 100% zoom) but I'm not sure whether this fixes it on other websites and I don't get the logic of choosing the number 0.93. Anything higher screws it again.

Preferebly I want to set it back to the default (-1) and revert the setting that changed scaling in v131 if possible.

Would apps written using SDL2 backend be available wherever SDL2 is supported? (apart from the logic of the app)

What backend do you think has the potential to put McCLIM in mainstream usage?

Does it make sense to also use McCLIM for TUI programs? Is there a "ANSI Terminal" backend for it?

friedrichRiemann

What does this sentence mean? "API based on WebGPU"

Shouldn't it be that "wgpu implements WebGPU API"?

friedrichRiemann

Thank you for posting!

Impeller has a ~100KB binary size.

nice!

I hope in future, it would be possible to use other languages to interface/develop with Flutter/impeller.

friedrichRiemann

Yeah. There was still Apple with Metal. So supporting that was on the checklist too where WebGPU could have helped.

In any case, let's see how Impeller performs compared to wgpu. Two cross platform abstractions over drivers...

friedrichRiemann

Based on a graph I saw on YouTube, WebGPU takes a 20% performance hit compared to Vulkan in exchange of programming against it easier:

friedrichRiemann

Isn't wgpu an implementation of WebGPU API? it's not an independent abstraction, is it?

friedrichRiemann

It appears McCLIM programs have a tight integration with the CL image itself, like UI is inspectable like HTML. Are Franz and CAPI like this too? I thought they were more like Qt. A standalone GUI written using CL but not having a holistic integration with it.

friedrichRiemann

sudo apt install intel-gpu-tools

friedrichRiemann

ok, your CPU and iGPU are fine. Your GPU supports h.265, vc1 and vp8/9. These are what youtube videos are encoded in (apart from av1).

I think hardware acceleration is not enabled in your browser. To check, play a YouTube or Twitch video in maximum resolution that your monitor supports, then run sudo intel_gpu_top to see if iGPU is engaged.

friedrichRiemann

What sort of hardware are we talking? Also, consider Firefox.

friedrichRiemann

I plan on upgrading to a T480

Consider a T480s instead...

You mean it's possible to use low profile switches on a normal profile keyboard? Didn't know!

If so, I wanted to ask what could be done about the key-caps? Can they be low profile too?

friedrichRiemann

They say chu2 has more treble and makes the ear tired...
