2013 R. I don't have any big issues with the vehicle, but in the early days it felt like I scraped the undercarriage on something at least once a day. I guess my single biggest complaint would be that when the vehicle has been sitting in the cold, you need to let it idle first for longer than you think or else you'll find yourself unable to shift to second and beyond.

Paid off or the grade school humor?

The mileage is a fun number, until you have to point it out.

I was browsing on-demand titles and lingered too long on "Sky High". My wife said that if I picked it, I couldn't just fast-forward to the Lynda Carter appearances.

There are at least four people in the world that think they have a flag that was raised on a particularly special flagpole, but there are probably many, many more. I can only attest to the four because I myself handed them off with a smile.

The Marines on post would do it as a favor overnight, but over time it began to be expected of us with no assistance by the souvenir-seeker, sometimes even without a "thank you". If you couldn't get someone to help you had to make it a "dirty" run; the souvenir flag went up and down with the mainstay flag folded and tucked in your armpit or squeezed between our knees and no one to salute.

At one point they were just being left for us on a desk with a Post-it note stating when they needed it turned over by. One night I spaced on doing it but since it was one of the rare occasions where the flag was already out of the plastic and folded the person later grabbed it from the office and left with a small hand-wave. I told my relief what happened and from that point on it was our MO, to fold and present and let them assume the flag's story.

EDIT: Grammar.

I left it up for grabs with the young lady at the door.

Until I offload this extra ticket I will be.

If I haven't heard back from you, I'll be in a Hot Wes American Summer tee that is one size too small.

I sent a PM.

I once won a race because the bus with my strongest competitors accidentally went to the wrong location (this was before cell phones were ubiquitous). Sometimes when I see Chuck Todd I wonder if that's how he managed his position.

I think the last time I was out on a Friday night in DC was the McElroy show last summer.

:-/ My boss is amazing. Star Trek came up in conversation organically and was germaine to the job, we were discussing classifications of satellites / spacecraft. I brought up V'ger when we were discussing preference of "is a"(inheritance) or "has a"(aggregation) relationships, not knowing if he'd get the joke or not.

I just got off the phone with my wife, who is a hiring manager, and she said this almost exactly.

When the recruiter implied that I didn't have to worry about their firm cold-calling me again I felt it implied that our professional relationship was over. They sounded pretty upset and I just wanted to let them know that I didn't set out that day with the intention of embarrassing them.

For my current job I changed after my shift in the employee bathroom. Freshly buffed shoes, shirt stays and collar stays, monogrammed French-cut shirt, and the tie I wore when I got married with the tip reaching perfectly to the center of the belt I had just bought. At one point in the interview I was asked if I liked Star Trek and showed them that my cuff links were the Starfleet insignia.

This time around I explained that I would have to leave home at 4am to get my shift in before a 3pm interview and that I recently had surgery and some parts take convincing to bend. Meh, oh well. I just thought that the recruiter rejecting my apology was funny and I wanted to share it.

Thanks for the advice but I'm old enough to know better. It was an unforced error but I don't feel terribly bad about it: for non-emergencies I have to give two week's notice for PTO and here I had only 5 days notice, the site was 50 miles away, and I have a distinct memory of someone saying "as-is" would be fine.

The only thing that felt off at the interview was that I didn't get a haircut the day before.

I wore my company polo w/shorts to the interview. I had made it clear that I wouldn't have time to change after I left work and was given the go-ahead to not be in a "suit". My pale, hairy legs were a bridge too far.

I care because they actually connected me with a good opportunity and apologized for their earlier missteps with me. It seemed like a pretty cool job too, in 4 decades of life this is new category of self-sabotage for me.

Your Dracula has me looking up Castlevania music.

In southern Maryland, October of 2006 a Jetta full of late-teens drove up to the pump next to me. I wasn't really paying attention to them, until one shouted "You have to pump your own gas? This is bullshit!" They then loaded back in to the vehicle and sped off, in the exact opposite direction of the only full-service station I know of in the county.

Any and all math. If you find a community college course to enroll in for Linear Algebra or Calculus, you should be able to transfer those credits.

I love the Code Metrics on account of a coworker who writes well-meaning but rambling functions. When I don't want to start any heavy coding on a Friday afternoon I run it real quick and check if there a new method that is 2x as long as any other functions.

I mostly ignore the "Maintainability Index", lower scores seem to correlate with number of lines and not much else.

I'll never forget the pained laugh you responded with when I asked if that QA job would lead to something better with that company.

In '09 and '10 they had a weird pre-Masters year for students that didn't know C/C++ before coming in to the school. Basically, it was a year of primer that was mandatory but you either didn't get grades for/they didn't count toward your Masters.

The students I knew that went through that had a rough first half of their first semester, but after that they seemed to be fine.

I've met and worked with 5 coding superstars. With one exception they all started to bum me out with their attitude toward giving of themselves. When gaming they would refuse to play support, and when you went out drinking they seemed to always miss their rotation as DD. The genius(no sarcasm) who asked me why I would volunteer at the SPCA had two dogs FROM a shelter. The guy who founded a robotics company wasn't a total bastard but he was much more likely to help you track down that bug if he'd already hit his 8 but you were his ride home.

I'm not saying that all 10x-ers are selfish, I'm saying that mine tend to skew that way and though they were impressive...I'm good. I'm good on meeting more.

I had a ~2.4 but a high SAT and ACT. I was originally denied for a bullshit reason, but I sent in a letter arguing against that bullshit and got the acceptance letter with the crazy NDA packet a week or so later.

I love this game, but the engineer part of me cringes at the creative license they've taken with ropes.
