I think one of the communication goals of Brexit is to burn people out. They want to get back to the days when only 33% of people turned out and voted and all the angry Brexit crowd just quietened down and stared at all the pretty colours on their TVs like good proles.

I experienced a small but touching moment tonight that reminded me that the human race is doing just fine.

Ismail who works for Deliveroo is a superbly well mannered and intelligent young man.

After an order mix up (it was the restaurant’s fault) he went back to the restaurant to bring back the right dishes.

He so charmingly and eloquently handled the situation, phoning up to handle our grievance, my overriding thought was that he’s destined for big things in life.

And when he returned with the right order he ran off for his next job before I could tip him or even thank him properly.

Then I found this note in the bag.

It turns out he wasn’t paid for his good deed and wanted to leave a good impression.
