Aight, Claude.

stumblinbear

I don't know what "tax write-off/business expense" has to do with anything here

stumblinbear

Yes

stumblinbear

Is it a bit higher than it was a hundred years ago? Yeah. But it's not that much of a difference.

stumblinbear

There's also at least one other device that's slated to get a decision from the FDA and start production by 2030

stumblinbear

I know a few people making shit for money with very expensive suits. People just do be saving for their hobbies

stumblinbear

I found Sonnet to make so many more bugs that caused more review rounds that using Opus was genuinely cheaper by the time all was said and done

stumblinbear

My teacher taught us a song one class and it has stuck with me against my will ever since. For 15 years

stumblinbear

Not a child. Realistic. This is a free app for a stupid game. There is zero data worth fuck-all, here.

stumblinbear

We're on a stupid game subreddit. In the context of a free app. From a developer nobody has heard of. They're not collecting your data for sale themselves, therefore it's only happening at all if ads are being served.

stumblinbear

Yeah, it's really not. You really overestimate how valuable "this random unnamed person used an app for some stupid game" is as data for advertisers. Essentially nobody gives a shit about 99% of any of your data. Especially if it has no name or account attached. And even then it's nearly worthless.

stumblinbear

I'm a software engineer. Essentially nobody is collecting your random bullshit data for any reason other than ads, unless it's for normal software analytics so they know how people use it. If you're not being served ads, chances are you're fine.

stumblinbear

If you don't see any ads, then no.

stumblinbear

It doesn't need to have a point. Evolution, baby

stumblinbear

You ask the agent to scan them?

stumblinbear

The "harness" in this case is just the normal harness that you use, not some special one made specifically for the benchmark

stumblinbear

Well, relying on AI from two years ago. Made today it would probably be able to deliver on quite a few of their goals

I highly doubt it would have saved them, though. It was always destined to fail because it looks fucking stupid

stumblinbear

Ain't no way the machine costs $400 to build

The problem is that everyone screams "don't roll your own auth" everywhere constantly without actually saying how to do it properly. Auth is not hard, it just has a couple of very specific things that must not be forgotten, but once it's implemented you can largely consider it done.

Obviously this leads to overthinking it. Thinking they're missing something when they find out what those things are.

Auth is not difficult. Looking at another implementation is not the best way to learn, either, because you don't know what is and isn't necessary. There are thousands of articles on how to implement auth properly, just read some of those.

stumblinbear

Holy shit no they don't. Functional families don't have people completely ignoring each other's polite requests.

stumblinbear

Ah yes, I also yearn for a world where it's impossible to get art from a real human artist whose work I love.

stumblinbear

That's not what people really mean when they say alignment. A model shouldn't do unsafe things without explicit permission if the safeguards are taken away. Going outside of the scope of the task or doing unsafe things in an attempt to cheat on a test or complete the task is misalignment, even if you've just told it to complete the task.

When told to capture a flag from a person, it shouldn't search for a gun to get it from them unless it has unambiguous permission. That is alignment.

stumblinbear

The fear mongering is unreal. They told it to simulate a cyber attack, and it did.

I was responding specifically to this, not the charged language of the article. This misses the point entirely.

stumblinbear

Yeah, that's a wild take. 4.7 and 4.8 are annoying as hell. Opus 5 was by far the worst, but was a strong programmer. 5.5 is just insanely good

stumblinbear

You're missing the point, as people usually do. This is just further evidence that nobody has solved the alignment problem. I wouldn't really call it newsworthy, though.
