"Thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double" is my new favorite term for rejection.

YESSSS they brought back the Barney Stinson Resume song!

Dorkside

Jabba drunk? Sounds like the best kind of drunk.

SchecterClassic

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that we now (presumably) know the size of Barney's dong?

ramesali786

They brought back Barney as the game-show host kisser!

Raktoner

inb4 Trevor Hudson is a bear.

cormega

Probably that, but did anyone else notice he only confirmed that there was going to be a ring bearer but he never confirmed there was not going to be a ring bear too?

iplaygaem

The ring bearer will be the bear.

Looks like you called it.

TBBklynite

That was a great revenge plot. Classic Barney.

And now, the show makes me sad for Marshall and Lilly.

MelSimba

Guys -we already have Star Wars references 5 minutes in. I'm seeing the kids' names being Luke and Leia increasingly likely.

At the end of the episode they said his name was Luke!

This episode has made up more than enough for last week's episode. But I predict next episode "How Your Mother Met Me" may be the best one yet, maybe of the season.

ramesali786

WHO DID LILY GET IN THE CAR WITH? THIS SHOW IS RIGHT BACK TO KILLING ME WITH SUSPENSE

azizinator25

My top 3 are:

  1. Ranjit

  2. Scooter

  3. Ralph Macchio

swordinthesound

I bet it's Ranjit, but she could be trying to leave for Italy. Could be the Captain.

The_Karma_Boy

My first thought was The Captain.

TheSecretExit

I'm thinking it's the Mother, for some reason.

[deleted]

[deleted]

TheSecretExit

True, though I didn't look that closely. I doubt it's Ranjit, since there was no "Hello!", and I doubt it was Scooter, as she really doesn't like him.

Hmm. Who else is a) close enough to Farhampton to pick Lily up and b) willing to do so after 2:00am?

patrickgacusan

She got in the back seat instead of the front. Like that's all I have to offer to this conversation. Haha.

[deleted]

I thought it was the mother until she got in the back seat. I'm pretty sure it's Ranjit

_Ab_Aeterno

I'm betting her dad. And then they will have a talk about how he missed out on her growing up and how great family is and blahblahblah and she'll go back and relent.

Dorkside

I'm guessing her boss, The Captain, sent a car to pick her up.

FreudianShart

The Captain may be the one to talk sense into Lily with a speech about the value of family. That's my thinking at least.

Performance enhancing drugs. You lied to Jim Nantz, Barney.

gounu

The bag full of embarrassing things from Ted's childhood was awesome. It wasn't just a high school debate team bag, it was a Debate Team Fan Club bag. Ted wasn't good enough to be on the team, he just went to their matches to cheer them on.

[deleted]

This episode hit all the right chords with me.

But, nothing, from finding out Barney's job, to how awesome his revenge was, to the heartbreaking Lily x Marshall fight, nothing hit me as hard as the confirmation that Ted named his son Luke.

I shall only watch it 20 more times. Today.

brofession

I don't remember the significance of that. Is it because Ted wanted to name his kids Leia and Luke?

christinasays

16 craploads. So he spends 1/16 of his salary on suits? Sounds about right.

cormega

I'm kind of mad that they copped out on saying the number. I've been curious about Barney's salary for a while.

barfobulator

Sitcoms never say the numbers for what the characters think are large sums of money. It's usually written down and passed between them, while each person acts shocked at the number of zeroes. It helps the show be relate-able to all audiences of varying economic levels, and keeps it from dating itself with respect to inflation.

So Ted's second child comes in 2017.

Dorkside

This is getting pretty heavy for How I Met Your Mother.

The_Gatemaster

Some of their best episodes have been pretty heavy (the Marshall/his dad episode from a few years back) being one of them.

TheRealDJ

Or when Lily left Marshall. While it made me hate her, it was an episode about a REAL relationship and how we can all be stupid(especially lily), which made it one of the best.

The_Gatemaster

It's one of my biggest arguments with people about this show. There are real life things that happen in this show. Sure, there are goofy ones and ones that stretch the imagination a bit, but it takes on real-life emotions. Not many comedies do that (Scrubs being one of the exceptions).

Marshall's dad dying (and the funeral), Lily leaving, Ted being alone/revelation at the end of Time Travelers, Barney's dad (leaving, finding & getting to know him), Robin's kids. Just to name one thing for each of them.

Each of these people have had to deal with real emotional baggage. It goes beyond the traditional relationship break-ups for emotions from a show like Friends (sure, there were a couple that involved babies that were kinda sad, but I don't remember them having more than an episode or two impact). That's not to discount Friends, it was great and all, but it was very superficial in many ways.

That's why I like this show so much. It doesn't sugar coat stuff. I'm about the age when the show started and love the fact that they're not sugar coating it and making it seem like all is going to be great. Each of these characters has had to live through real-life events which is what I will have to do.

Sappy, but that's why I've enjoyed this show so much. Plus, there's some good laughs in most episodes too. Can't forget how important laughing is. And dang...I just generally like laughing (General Lee Like Laughing!!)

Trevor Hudson is absolutely a bear.

swarls14barkley

Wow, great episode. Marshall and Lily's fight was actually reasonable, and so much revealed in such a short time.

ramesali786

It's really, really awesome to see Marshall finally FINALLY calling Lily out on all of her bullshit. He's refused to go there for too long.

Hyooz

Seriously. Watching the show the first time, I was baffled at how quickly everyone forgave her for that (especially annoying in the "Lily Steals Christmas" episode.)

Best part is she knows he's right. The "consolation prize" line was just... perfect.

[deleted]

She's resentful of never achieving her dreams, and this is further compounded by Marshall fulfilling all of his.

myslead

yes, when she started whining about how it was Italy and called him on being more selfish than she ever was.

I was like OH SHE DIDN'T

and then Marshall called her on her bullshit, was happy the writers brought it up.

[deleted]

Didn't she almost run off again last season? I can't remember but don't she trick Ted into driving her to the airport of something?

horsebeer

Season 6, she almost got on a plane to Spain

You were more selfish than I've ever been to you.

Are you sure you want to play that card, Lily?

[deleted]

"Marshall, you need to take the high-paying but soul-sucking corporate job to pay for all the credit card bills I've hidden from you."

The Farhampton Inn is where Ted met the Mother, where they got engaged and, now, where she went into labour? What's next?

Dorkside

We really better get a ring bear at the wedding.

Smunny

I was waiting for a ranjit "hello!" when lily got in that car

That would have killed the moment. Moment Killer is Sarah Chalke in another universe.

Penny and Luke! Solid names! (I wonder if they make Leia a middle name)

Classic_Wingers

That exception was you Luke! Awe man. They totally used Luke! I like Penny too. Reddit called that hard though. Good job everyone.

"You broke up with me and went to San Francisco." damn. Glad to see Marshall standing up for himself and bringing up how selfish Lilly is.

Ranlier

He would have been totally unjustified throwing that in her face seven years later.

...except she had to say "more selfish than anything I ever did to you" and completely bring it into play. Sucks for you, Lily.

Gemini4t

Yeah. Bringing it up out of the blue? Uncool. But as a response to her statement? Fucking dead on.

But I don't want it to damage their relationship.

[deleted]

Yep. The moment she said that, I totally laughed and said, "Wait... what??" When Marshall came out swinging, it was like 7 years' worth of vindication.
