What takes you guys so long?

So this is my second character. I’m at act three before the 40 hour mark. My first play through I explored everything I could, did everything I could with it being my first play through. Looking back on my first play through and looking at YouTube videos I pretty much hit it all except some minor things like recruiting Minthara and I completely forgot to do Halsions mission but it looks like I didn’t miss a crazy amount of stuff and I’m finding stuff I missed this play through. What take everyone so long??? I see people who have 100+ hours on one tav. I understand talking to everybody exploring every nook and cranny cause that’s what I did. Even with all of that, I still didn’t hit the hundred hour mark on my first play through and I’m hitting even more stuff on the second play through and I’m 100% not gonna hit the 80 hour mark on this one. What gives?

Looting

LouisaB75

And inventory management. :D

Looting what?? I loot every one I kill and look through everything. I’m just perplexed at the amount of time people have in one play. I’ve even read a lot of the stuff in game. The note that the steel watch guard has hit me hard :(

It's almost as though people can and do enjoy things in different ways from each other!

RollingToast [OP]

I’m not saying people can’t enjoy the game the way they want. Literally just asking a question because I see people having a different experience than me. Not everything is negative

There is a negative tone in your post based on how you have phrased things. Telling someone they've taken "so long" implies that they have exceed time expectations and done something wrong, which isn't the case in a video game. You wouldn't say, "The food took so long" and have it mean something positive, for example!

Ultimately, I did answer your question: people do things in different ways from each other. From your perspective, maybe you read more quickly, from someone else's, maybe you don't read as thoroughly. Maybe you go through areas once thoroughly, and someone else does it three times just to be sure they didn't miss anything. There's a million little things that add up to your playtime being lower than someone else's.

Not skipping every Dialog

Illustrious_Cost2945

Is this ok to do after 13 runs? 🤔 For some dialogs

Sorry_Engineer_6136

Balanced lmao

RollingToast [OP]

Is that actually part of it??

Not really, unless you're just impatiently plowing through every encounter. The average first run is probably well over 100h, mostly because of the learning curve, regardless of difficulty. I imagine successive playthroughs are typically even longer because of returning players who want to be thorough and find anything they may have missed previously.

My HM run was by far my fastest because I knew the maps like the back of my hand, skipped dialogue, and only looted and explored what was necessary. I was probably around 40h when I made it to Act 3 and ended the game at around 65h. My first and second runs, which were both Balanced, were probably my longest runs. So difficulty has very little to do with it, I think.

My first playthrough took approximately 300 hrs, you're definitely doing something wrong :)

RollingToast [OP]

How?? After I finished the game I watched play throughs and I don’t think I did anything wrong or took the quick way for stuff.

Queasy_Engineering_9

I'm very very meticulous in my gaming and am always a bit completionist on my first run in a game, looking for the best outcome possible.

I find laroan games like bg3 and ddos2 where you can make the "wrong" decision really difficult! It took me 200 hours to finish act 1 in divinity, I never even finished the game 😭

Act 1 took me around 100 hours on tactician, act 2 about 60 and act 3 about 120-140. Keep in mind that my second playthrough honor run I got to grymforge at about 30 hours.

Smooching Astarion over and over again because Pookie deserves all my love 🥰🥰

There are SO many side quests. Halsin’s quest is merely the tip of the iceberg. I bet I can guess at some of the content you missed: did you do the stonelord quest in act 3? Mystic Carrion? Meet the Shadar-Kai in act 2?

Also a lot of people just like talking to all the npcs. There is so much cool dialogue!

AraneaNox

Dripping everybody out, looting, inventory management, scrambling for money for the Bloodied greataxe in act 1. I also have to make ABSOLUTELY SURE I've explored everything there is or I won't know any peace. There are also interactions and cutscenes that last a while and there's a chance you've missed certain side quests. I'm usually at the 40h mark by the end of Act 1 and a single campaign takes ~120h.

RollingToast [OP]

Thanks for actually answering my question. Why is everyone being so mean? I see everyone having a different experience than me and I just wanna know why.

BiggerBigBird

Your whole post comes across as condescending. The vast majority of people take over 100 hours to get through the game, so you're either saying "I'm super smart and fast" or "everybody is so dumb and slow."

You'd have to skip large portions of the game to finish it within 40 hours, especially for a first playthrough.

Me being dumb and slow took ~140 hours on my first game and still found so much I missed on my following playthroughs. I could never be as amazing and smart and fast as you who didn't miss anything whatsoever.

Why are you rushing through the game? What’s the hurry?
