How to stop diving in at pitch

I may be describing this poorly, but after taking a year off due to injury this is more pronounced - instead of stepping straight forwards, I step in a direct line towards the pitcher. It’s the opposite of stepping in the bucket, I’m kind of diving at the inside corner when I take my stride.

what drills exist to stop that?

Take the first pitch of every AB. Hold your position after the take. Look down at your feet and make sure your stride is straight. Work on it in the cage, but it won’t be fixed until you address it at game speed.

Of you are clearing your hips it’s fine but how to break it is standing on a 2x8 and then you kind of have to step forward

I’m clearing my hips, but have trouble with stuff on the inner half.

Will try swinging on lumber

Yeah idk what you mean if you are stepping in a straight line towards the pitcher your foot would be in the right place

Forgive the shitty MS Paint, but doing what's on the right instead of what's on the left

EDIT:

THATS HOW TO DESCRIBE IT!

I'm stepping AT the center of the rubber instead of parallel to the edge of the batter's box

Maybe a bit of a lazy fix here, but have you considered starting with an open stance? You could also work the old Robinson Cano L screen drill with a stride. My guess is that you’ll have trouble clearing the barrel on an inside pitch and it could force your hips to drive laterally rather than in this closed off position. Just some thoughts - keep us posted on your progress!

Yes - moved the front foot half an (anatomical) foot back, not really helping

Will have to try to look up the cano drill, never heard of it before

A bit late, but you could try just starting a bit open. Stride the same way, and you'll land straight.

Thinking that’s the temporary fix until I correct it with the lumber and cano drills
