Her character design seems to communicate that she’s progressed in courage and skills from re2 but not to the point of being a super agent like Leon in re4.
All things considered I love it! Claire was phenomenal in the og Veronica and I hope they strike that balance again where she’s badass enough to handle her own but still too inexperienced to be considered a one person army.

Was hopping for a more faithful design for her CV outfit. Besides the chocker it's really just a new outfit all together. Also not a fan of how dark it is. Really wanted a brighter colour scheme
But knowing Capcom they'll likely lock her classic outfit behind a deluxe edition

I hoped for a design closer to the original. Maybe not showing her belly and having the sleeved black shirt just cover her entire arms, but comfortable looking and still brighter. Loved the brown boots, too. But now she has these wrinkled jeans and jacket, and heeled pointy boots, and I find it so, so, so triggering and uncomfortable. I'll pray to the mods.

They really are allergic to giving her her original 90s high waisted pants and going for that early-to-mid 2000s low rise.
Such a shame, I was really hoping they would lean more into time period rather than going for a timeless look. This could easily suit a character set in 2026. At least they flared the bottom of the jeans instead of going skinny this time. That's at least an improvement.
Personally I'm all for redesigns as long as they at least capture the original essence and are faithful to their time period. This is neither.

Also like every RE game there will be alternate costumes that let you go back to the classic look. Happens every time. Even the infamous RE3 remake has a classic Jill outfit.
You’ll get what you want with the alternate costumes. Chillax and just be thankful we’re getting a remake of this game after practically begging for it for years. We are eons away from the Capcom that screwed people over loading paid dlc onto a disc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the game and have no doubt it'll be a 10/10 - especially with the re4r team behind it. That being said, this is a discussion about her redesign, so I'm going to voice my disappointment in how I find it both not fitting for the time period and just a boring, poor intepretation of the original it is. This looks more like RE2r Claire 2.0 than it does anything else.
In extension to this, I think its worth discussing how they continue to honour and respect the male characters more by having consistent visual distinction and style traits, whereas they take a far more conservative approach to the women. And I'm not simply talking about 'butts, boobs and legs', I'm referring to just boring designs that can be shared by any generic character - I cant say that they give the male characters the same treatment. The only female characters I think they've done well in the recent years is Ada, Ashley and Grace.

It’s to the character’s detriment too— the older designs weren’t always practical but they were visually striking. And that’s important too. They were remembered because of it. This is a woman with a jacket and some jeans. But compare that to Jill’s tube top ensemble in OG3 😂

I agree. Just forgetting the original designs completely, I dont look at this and say either 'this is unique' or 'this looks very 1990s'. I'd be happy of they went in a completely different direction all together, as long as it just wasnt boring. The frustrating part for me is that none of the male characters have been treated this way. And, to play devils advocate, Ada and Ashley were good redesigns and looked mid-2000s, but Jill and Claire definitely drew the short straw.

I love the remakes so much— but if I had one criticism it would be that, stylistically, they’re much safer. Not just character designs but music, menu design, sound effects, etc— much more conservative.

Im not saying that low rise pants weren't making an appearance by the late 90s, but they certainly weren't popularised until the early 2000s. Look at Jawbreaker, clueless and empire records - all the women were wearing high waisted clothing. Even in the original RE games they were all high waisted, including CV Claire, and that was made in the early 2000s. When you're trying to recapture a particular time period, you go for what was typical during that time, even if there were variances. 90s is commonly associated with high waisted mom jeans, pleated skirts, white socks and sneakers etc. Low rise are definitely thought of as a 2000s trend.
And this is all to say, why wouldnt they follow Claire's original trend? Thats an easy thing capture when seeking a similar but different vibe.

Thats not true. I mean, just use Resident Evil games as an example. Every female character wore high waisted pants (including CV Claire) until RE4 where they transitioned to more contemporary trends. Then look at fashion movies of the time like Clueless, Jawbreaker, Empire Records, etc - all high waisted, but i will grant you not as high waisted as the 80s/early 90s, but certainly above the hips. Even looking at more recent fashion trends referencing the 90s, like mom jeans or pleated skirts. They are high waisted because the 90s was commonly known as a high waisted fashion era. It wasn't until the early 2000s that mid-to-low rise clothing started becoming more on trend (very reminiscent of the 70s), popularised by people like Britney and Christina in their Slave 4 u or Dirty eras. Low rise flared or wide leg pants are far more commonly associated with the early to mid 2000s that transitioned into low rise skinny jeans by the end of 2000s.

But yeah, run off with that as some kind of gotcha moment. Its totally like Claire in Re2 or Code Veronica wasnt wearing high waisted trousers. Or Jill in re1 or re3. Or any of my previous examples. They've never gone to into detail,
my head Canon is that they had to bring them to the hospital, Leon has a gunshot wound, and Sherry is going to be physically weaker from having the virus.
So when they were in the hospital the fed were kind of circling in. Like somehow it was starting to look like something weird was going to happen and they read the room.
Leon told Claire to just go and not get wrapped up in this that he would take care of Sherry because he had to stay to get his wound treated?

OG Resident Evil 3 epilogue had Leon tell Claire to leave him and Sherry behind. He knew if Claire was with them, she wouldn’t have a shot at finding Chris.
