This is right outside my apartment building, was fine when I left at 8am and seemed fine when my SO left at 9am. So they must have planned it for when people would be at work/school.
Unconfirmed rumours of knife wielding men running away from the scene.

Running with knifes, tsk tsk
They must know that you run faster with a knife.
5 bonfires burnt in as many days in Belfast

Still find it hard to swallow that setting alight structures of this magnitude in the middle of a city, is actually legal. I don't want to breathe that shit in....
Or that they used to get grants
Grants so they can burn an effigy of a priest that committed suicide, as well as all the other sectarian shite that goes on there.
Fucking ridiculous.
It's shit like grants that let them think it's culture and not lunacy.
Is it legal? Or is it just another one of those things in typical NI fashion that are illegal and that no-one does anything about?
Provided there's no tires I believe. But peelers never care unless there's a feed of them. As long as they're on the inside and not visible from the outside they let them slide.
Its legal, in most cases.
Oh dear
Someone is;
A) Going to get a kicking
B) Going to start a riot
C) Both
ROHAN CALLS FOR AID!
I can't stand by and not correct this, sorry... You mean Gondor.
Fuck. I new it was one or the other. An excuse for a rewatch it is!
I was parked beside it and left at around 9:20/9:25. Was fine then, just a couple of kids on bikes looking at it.
It started around 930 - we could see it from the office. The flames were so high I honestly didn't believe it was in fact the bonfire.

Somehow went right past there not long after it started and missed everything.
That's the second bonfire that I know of being lit in less than a week. Be interesting to see if this part of a pattern or just coincidence.
They don't light themselves.
Well, no. But there's a difference between it being local kids or an organised group, for example.
THE BEACONS ARE LIT
You'd think with the manpower they have to build a big fucking wooden skyscraper in the middle of town, that all that effort wouldn't be better suited to something constructive?
Waste of our emergency services, drove past this morning and seen a fire engine enroute.
Good craic at the same time
Generally speaking, the bonfire committee know what they are doing and keep an eye on it once its lit, a random lit and run attack won't try to mitigate any risk or damage.
I just mean its a waste of a fire engine getting called out this morning when it could have been elsewhere
Well yes, hopefully it wasn't needed elsewhere.
Welcome to Belfast tourists
Drove past that 20 mins ago and it was still smoking...

Can't say it's my favourite tradition neither, but all the same I wouldn't be a dick about it.
Burning that many tyres can't be legal... as if that's ever mattered a fuck anyway...
I don't know why it's 'great news' though - if you support them, it's bad news. If you don't support them, it's really no change as they'll get plenty of "donations" to get it even bigger by the 11th night.
Could anyone contradict themselves more in 2 sentences? Are you always this confused Claire?
How am I contradicting myself? I'm saying that it's either bad news (if you're pro-bonfire) or neutral news (if you're anti- or neutral on bonfires). which part of that is a contradiction exactly?
they'll get plenty of "donations" to get it even bigger by the 11th night
You are saying as a result of it burning early, it will in fact get bigger. This is good news for supporters and bad news for those against it.
Not really on the same point though. I was referring to the basic act of burning bonfires early - it's not the first one to go this week, and they aren't all getting huge donations.
The theory that burning bonfires early is 'great news' is the one I disagree with. If you support it - yeah sure it'll be bigger, but you've spent a lot of time building what you had, and now that time and effort has literally gone up in smoke early. Also it means someone is targeting your community. So yeah, not necessarily good news actually.
What a knob you are
Are these being set alight by rival bonfire enthusiasts?
Milltown's/Belvior's was lit the other week too
That's what they get for building them too early. When I was a lad they were built a day or two before the 11th.
