So, Achenar's main station is quite a looker. I was almost afraid to ruin the cleanliness of the place.

Did anyone object to you landing on their ice hockey pitch?
There is one like it in Fawaol.
Ah, the ideal place to practice speed docking.
*screech...bonk*

Well, I've been around Empire space quite a bit (looking for progression missions), but I haven't seen another station like this since.
The Trading Post station of Delta Phoenicis has this interior as well. It's actually quite rare. I bounty hunted deep into Empire Space and only saw the nice interior twice, tops.
There's a station called Ali Hub that looks similar. Can't remember which system it's in though.
It's also what Federation ones look like. Identical.
Makes me want to play some table-top hockey :)

I finally got my Achenar Permit after the patch, what's its economy like? Is it utter garbage like Sol?
Stations are really far out, not really worth imo.
What Kilian said. The stations are too far from the entry point. Plenty of other systems near by though that are good for trading.
Is it utter garbage like Sol?
I'm fixing that.
I had a similar but diametrically opposed reaction, and couldn't resist the urge to dump a full hold of 90+ biowaste while I was there.
So is the Black Mausoleum in Beta hydri :D
A station so pretty only Orcas should dock there.
Yes we all have seen several of them, but seeing it for the first time :), enjoy details
I've never seen one.
neither have i but i really want to now. :( can anyone name some systems that have these in? thanks in advance!
Delta Phoenicis, station called Trading Post
Sol, M. Gorbachev
Sol, Mars High.
Shinigami.
Tau Ceti, Ortiz Moreno or whatever the first station is
If your in there in anything other than clipper/orca your ruining the look.
Not to be that guy, but this is reposted every week
And here come the downvotes, thanks a lot guys but I've seen this picture like 20 times now. It's as annoying as the people who post funny NPC names. Can't we have a "common repost" label?
Ye but I was utterly bored because of it's distance from that gigantic star. Visited once and will not go there unless I really get some missions and/or opportunities.
Are you landing on a basketball court? Or is it an ice rink?
The one orbiting Mars is just like that too. I was super suprised to see it like that. Its super cool. I decided that it is my new "home base"
Cool. For the Federation aligned pilots who want to sightsee something similar galileo station in Sol looks the same.
Sol has a couple like that. One orbiting Earth (M. Gorbachev I think) and another one orbiting the moon (Galileo).
...that's just a tourism-type interior. As far as I know, any starport that is Tourism type has that interior. Love the design though.
That station needs 500 tons of biowaste dumped in it.
Empire baby
I think this is standard for Communist stations, it's where I have noticed them before, and it's got a Carribean feel to it too lol.
So there is an atmosphere in there. I wasn't sure if the blue lighting was a sort of force shield that created a barrier to the outside. I see palm trees next to the landing pad. Though, they could be fake I suppose...

Yup it's a air lock. When your canopy breaks, your oxygen counter stops when you've reached the airlock
Jynx2501 2 points · Jan 2015
Thats cool. I've never survived that long, lol
PaalRyd 5 points · Jan 2015 · Mesophan
Well - you hear PA-announcements with quite a clear echo and a "huge, hollow structure echo"-sound to it...
If there was no atmosphere - it would make that impossible...
Which also makes me wonder if you can die from running out of oxygen if you're inside the station....
Lustan 8 points · Jan 2015 · Lustan
No. The timer stops ticking down once you are past the mailslot.
PaalRyd 1 points · Jan 2015 · Mesophan
That is good to know... Good to know indeed...

Sounds are one way the game deliberately ignores realism though. You'd never be able to hear enemy ships blow up in space but it makes combat more atmospheric, and a lot of sci fi has used this approach.
[deleted] 3 points · Jan 2015
Now you've got me thinking... Wouldn't it be cool if there was an option to mute all sounds that don't originate inside your own ship?
Probably not worth the effort to implement, but still. Are there any other games that do this?
fw190a8 1 points · Jan 2015 · COHN (unofficial Galnet)
That is a very good question indeed. I can't recall any, or any movies, but that doesn't mean there aren't any!
[deleted] 3 points · Jan 2015
Firefly/Serenity comes to mind as far as film is concerned, but yeah, can't think of any games.
LaboratoryOne 1 points · Jan 2015 · FatHaggard - Elite Racers CoFounder【AKB☆E】Inu
That was when I fell in love with Firefly. There is this big moment as they fly towards a structure and sort of slam through part of it. No sound on impact at all! I was impressed and pleased.

IIRC the new Star Trek movies have silence in space. Also I'm pretty sure that BSG does as well.
[deleted] 1 points · Jan 2015
2001: A Space Odyssey did this.
[deleted] 1 points · Jan 2015
Interstellar was silent in space.
Sendaeran 1 points · Jan 2015
The speakers in your ship reproduce all sound.
Jynx2501 2 points · Jan 2015
That hadn't actually occurred to me. I tossed sound physics out the window when I heard explosions, ships flying by, other gun fire, and missiles in open space...
[deleted] 1 points · Jan 2015
I've always put that down to your ship recreating the sounds and playing them through the speakers. Not being able to hear what's going on around you would massively reduce a pilot's combat effectiveness.

It also explains why the station stops rotating in comparison to you, with the atmosphere you rotate with it.
Alexandur 12 points · Jan 2015 · Ambroza
I'm pretty sure your ship is using its thrusters to constantly compensate for the rotation, because you can turn that feature off.
theskabus 1 points · Jan 2015
I didn't notice, but you're probably right.
I'm just glad it's there.
Dreadp1r4te 3 points · Jan 2015 · Dreadp1r4te - Retired CODE Pirate
Also, if you turn FA off and drift slightly off center, the centrifugal force will drag you "down" towards the closest wall of the station.
FruitPunchDrunk 5 points · Jan 2015
Atmosphere would make little difference in this case, the air friction wouldn't be enough to make your rotation synch up with the station like that so fast.
fw190a8 1 points · Jan 2015 · COHN (unofficial Galnet)
There's a setting called rotational correction. If you disable it, you will stay still and the station interior will rotate. Air would have an impact on the ship but not enough to completely rotate with the station.
You can test it by floating a marshmallow in a cup of liquid. If you rotate the cup, the marshmallow rotates but not at the same rate as the cup. Liquids are more sense than air at most atmospheric pressure, too.
Jynx2501 1 points · Jan 2015
I just took that as relativity physics. you eventually have to match the rotation, and therefor just don't see it anymore.
