I mean, selling out government services to the private sector is what Republicans openly want to do to everything. They'll destroy anything to make a short-sighted buck.
My favorite part of this video is where someone suggests he do an "evil laugh" after he explains his plan & he happily obliges.
They're cartoon villains come to life.
Maybe they should concentrate on consolidation out in Western Kansas and get rid of some of those five kid high schools
I voted against this tool of the Right. I hope any of you who have yet to vote will do the same.
Voted for his opponent but I wish this article would have been plastered everywhere before early voting started!!
It wouldnt have mattered. The people who vote for stuff like this don't care what gets said about the candidate, as long as said candidate repeats something that they agree with.
I have a kid in joco schools... Someone eli5 please?
What Croft appears is acknowledging is that in JoCo, Dems are increasingly winning seats on the county commission, JCCC board, and local school boards. He's upset about that and wants to find a way to get around the usual school board election process (where Republicans are increasingly losing), and find a way to gain control of school districts and boards for Republicans.
IMO, by saying 'dissolving a school district', he's suggesting the state take control over the district - they would basically declare the schools are not performing or something, kind of like how KCMO was previously managed by the state of MO because it was failing. GOP Kansas legislators would then take over control of the district, appoint their GOP cronies to manage it, de-fund programs, shitcan your libraries and punish trans kids - basically do all the culture war stuff they want.
It's crazy to think this guy's district is in Overland Park - he's in the middle of Kansas' best district, Blue Valley - so how cynical do you have to be to try this type of maneuver, and without even thinking about how it would destroy the democratic process for electing school boards? It impacts every voter in JoCo.
It's hard to think this could even happen, but if the GOP continues to have a super-majority in both houses of the legislature, and gets a GOP governor next time, this type of thing could actually happen.
Trumpkins are getting madder and madder that they can't exert local control over our lives. You know, being the party of small government and all.
I wonder if it is related to their recent failures to get “Moms for Liberty” school board candidates elected.

“Kansas communities rejected multiple far-right candidates for school boards in what a national education group has characterized as a U.S.-wide trend of demanding “real solutions” on the local level.”

That GOP culture warrior over in Olathe is a prime example. It's embarrassing when these guys campaign so hard on trans bathrooms and whatnot, only to find out after they get elected that running a school district is 99.9% managing finances and 0.001% punishing trans kids.
