Stay Cool ;D

emil_jacob_2000

That's this sub's motto and one of its rules apparently (which was used way before this episode).

[deleted]

[deleted]

Jackski

it does indeed.

death556

So was she basically asking him to marry her?

[deleted]

[deleted]

death556

I think I got the gist of it. I just wasnt 100% sure cause they were trying really hard to not just say "marry me"

kacoret

She clearly mentioned about getting a husband after graduating, so...

death556

Thought that maybe she just wanted him to maybe look after her and make sure she got a decent husband and not just outright ask him to be her husband. I mean isn’t his heart set on Alice or are they friend zoned?

BleedingUranium

Eugeo's heart is set on Alice... but he hasn't seen her since they were 11, which was seven years ago, and they don't even know if she's still alive.

And, deep down, Eugeo knows this too, which is part of why he feels conflicted here.

monkeymacman

Is it actually a romantic thing between him and Alice or has that been established yet?

BleedingUranium

I mean... it's hard to say. They were separated when they were 11, which could certainly amount to a crush on Eugeo's part (but that's about it), and then he went through most of his teenage years (where it actually could have been romantic) without her, but always thinking about her, which would unavoidably reshape his memory and feelings as well.

This only just occured to me, but I actually feel Sugu's confused feelings for Kazuto during his time trapped in SAO are an extremely good comparison here. Alice was like a sister to him, but... was she? Maybe she was more? Maybe she sort of became more as time past and also he grew up? Really, at this point "Alice" is more of an idea than a person, in a sense.

It's all kind of a mess and Eugeo himself probably couldn't even answer this with a straight yes or no.

monkeymacman

Well, that's the reason why she was talking about how if he placed high enough if the placement exam or whatever it's possible for him to be appointed as a noble, because as a noble herself she would have to marry another noble (which she talked about before that)

death556

Yeah. Connecting all the dots, it makes perfect sense.

Yaj_95

I think this is the promise he couldn't keep, I mean I feel it is one sided, and he would just do it out of obligation, or promise. I think if that happens he would just convince her parents to let her marry as she wishes.

StornZ

Yes. She's clearly doing it for advantageous reasons. She doesn't want someone rapey as a husband and Eugeo would never do that from what she can see.

Stonehack

Given that they don't marry for love at all this is the best chance she has to get someone nice.

Vindicare605

You mean to tell me that not only do we have another male character but that said main character is actually desirable to women and not just Kirito?

Man, SAO haters must be so upset that they lost two things that they love to rant about.

Meltedsteelbeam

I can definitely see why people are saying she’s best girl.

I have to though say I really like Eugeo's character.

[deleted]

The ending was great. I love how the ending credits song synced perfectly, little details like this make SAO my favorite anime by far.

felink_21

It was beautiful. The direction of the scene was incredible!

BulliIshtar

Eugeo: Look at me, Kirito.

I'm the harem protagonist now.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but why couldn't Humbert just kick a puppy instead? I don't like where this is going. Please tell me that this will all culminate to Humbert killing a dog instead of where I think this is going. Why can't this just be Kirito's Bizarre Adventure. He already has a Stand, 「MORNING WOOD」. Asuna has her Stand from the movie too. I swear if they pull this shit a third time...

Isn't the point of Anime Only discussion to avoid hints like this from people that know what's going to happen?

[deleted]

You would think, but the LN readers can’t help but spoil anime-onlys here, even though they have a dedicated discussion post. It’s physically impossible for them.

Truegreyrose

That’s disgustingly selfish tbh

Yaj_95

I couldn't agree more. I hate him more than Marrine from grancrest lol

BulliIshtar

To the point where I'd actually like him more if he brutally slaughtered innocent puppies instead?

miriichuu18

Rule 10? I have no clue what that is. But I take that you understand what I’m saying why Humbert is so hateable.

BulliIshtar

Rule 10 of this sub, "Stay cool."

It's just not going to be possible.

[deleted]

[removed]

BulliIshtar

I'm going to put this on record if what I think is going to happen happens.

The Taboo Index is stupid and whoever designed it is stupid.

Ryuuji_Gremory

Well we already saw pretty obviously that the Taboo index probably isn't really just made to make sure people live a happy and peaceful life.

Look at what happened to Alice, though Eugeo believes she is still alive, as far as we know she was sentenced to death in accordance with the Taboo Index for literally stumbling into restricted territory, a death sentence for an unintentional act that harmed no one, that kind of law can't be based on wanting to make people happy.

[deleted]

You have just violated the Taboo Index. Say goodbye to your friends and family.

Spockies

Sir, Integrity Knights are here. Open up!

Yaj_95

This is a gold SAO meme! lol

TryingToBeNice2U

The yawn from kirito correlating to the fox yawning caught me off guard

Estova

"Man that's a loud ass f-- oh."

[deleted]

I know right? That really had me for a second

rowenarrow

What was up with the Kirito voice change about the errand?

plsdonthurtmi

Probably to cement the impression that he was blatantly lying to Eugeo.

fatalystic

He was trying to make whatever he "had to do" sound important, in the vain hope that he'll be able to get out of having to go to the picnic.

[deleted]

I took at as he was about to say "stay cool" in a joking way but Eugeo interrupted him before he could.

Crimsonavenger2000

Wow I really didn't expect that proposal part. I really like Tiese so far

Phantom108mw3

I have a very bad feeling about next episode. The end was too lighthearted for the contents of this episode which leads me to think that Eugeo will surely become suffer-kun next week 😬

killertortilla

Without a doubt he's going to have a fight, nearly lose and then "find" his sword power and win.

AlphaGaming2006

That would make sense but lets us anticipate what's to come next

L3onskii

I feel like what Kirito said earlier after the confrontation is going to happen. About trying to force Eugeo to say that they're breaking the rules. And when it comes out that they didn't, they could use it as slander and inflict some sort of punishment on him

IntegrityKnight

That scene with Tiese at the end made me cry. That was absolutely beautiful and a great way to end this episode!

Hey you wanna have a seat on my fuckin MASSIVE ASS BED?

Seriously it goes off screen

[deleted]

Seriously though wtf is up with that bed?

kh_levi

You're such a Tiese

sgchase88

I am not Caught up on the manga, but at the actually gonna do the bob 5 with Sinon or is it only gonna be focused on the underworld the whole season?

BleedingUranium

No, the GGO scene simply served to set up future Alicization stuff (much later, like "after Ep24" later).

sgchase88

Ok thanks

[deleted]

[deleted]

_johnning

That was my initial hitch as well, but Tiese seemed very genuine as the episode went on

lamty101

I wonder what will the English dub for "stay cool" look like. It will be quite strange that Eugeo have completely no idea what "stay" "cool" means, while speaking perfect English in the dub.

Same thing for spells like "System call" "Generate luminous element" etc.

The whole idea is that Kirito and the audience understand some English as an occasionally used foreign language or a computer language but the UW residents doesn't. After all, one main theme of alicization is that the underworld is a constructed virtual world but the residents have never think about that. The idea works for Chinese dub, French dub, Russian dub etc., but sadly, not in English only.

Pand3mix

I mean, if you were to go back to medieval times and say "Wassup fam, how you doin" or "Stay cool bro", they wouldn't understand shit would they? I think the whole scenario still fits with english dub

seitaer13

The same as it was with "Death Gun". The significance will be lost.

Vindicare605

I was wondering on this too. What would be great is if they flipped it on its head and used Japanese words and phrases instead. Other anime have done that.

jeanmax123

Can someone tell me which chapter of the light novel do I begin reading to follow what happened after episode 9?

Fastblizzard

Volume 11 Chapter 4 (page 65 on YenPress version)

jeanmax123

Many thanks

Sendmepupperpics

Why does this show continue to base plot elements on sexual assault? It is easily the worst part of the show in every season to the point where it's impossible to look past.

I hate when people throw around the blanket statement that SAO is garbage, but lazy writing like this is why they say it. It is possible to have a bad guy that isn't a sadistic sicko.

seitaer13

I agree with the sexual assault, that's a road Kawahara goes down far too often.

However you're selling these characters short. This episode presented a class divide as being a real issue in the Underworld. With the upper nobles contempt at those lower than them and the ability to commit evil acts in a supposedly utopia casing a dark spot in a world where you can't break any rules.

BleedingUranium

It is possible to have a bad guy that isn't a sadistic sicko.

Are you saying that bad guys who torture and murder people aren't also that?

Sendmepupperpics

I'm saying the bad guys in SAO are 1-dimensional and lazy. They're bad people because the plot needs a reason for Kirito to get upset, not because their character has any reason to be. There are many reasons for someone to do bad things without going back to the well of trash motivations that was Fairy Dance's Suguo.

Of course it's possible to have a sadistic sicko as a villain and have it work. The joker is probably the most famous villain of all time, and that's exactly what he is. The bratty nobles are not on that level.

BleedingUranium

Then you're not paying attention to them or trying to analyze them as people, simple as that. Raios and Humbert are very well-characterized people, and their actions and motivations make sense for who they are and their background.

monkeymacman

Well, it's not like it's really the writers of the anime's fault, seeing as it's based on light novels/mangas which I would assume probably have the same in it which is why it's in the anime.

Panders0_0

I haven’t read any LN or anything but when Tiese was introduced I really thought about Asuna and the thought of how there was another (excuse me for not completely remembering the name) spirit dive machine not being used but if I was on track at all didn’t Tiese Just ask Eugeo to marry her if he gets a high enough rank and that would mean Asuna doesn’t love Kirito anymore

Side note: I’m not deep into the sao life but I have watch all the anime -multiple times- but I haven’t watched the movies or read any LN stuff but I really just want to see Kirito and Asuna like live normally for a moment and actually get the feeling of -even after all the stress is gone and no more fighting they still love each other and this is how they live- type stuff

LMK ur thoughts

felink_21

This ep made me love Tiese and Eugeo S2!

Admiral_Kevin

Amazing episode. Looking forward to next week! New waifu coming for Eugeo. 😏

TheCherryPi

In this episode even people who know sword fighting only from Star Wars can see how no one in sao universe knows what the fuck they are doing with the swords

BleedingUranium

What do you mean?

StornZ

Probably these fancy ass moves they're all trying to pull. Star Wars with the prequel trilogy was a bunch of twirling lightsabers.

seitaer13

Sword fighting in this universe does not work like real life.

ogie850

I rarely comment, Im a little slow and miss things, so I have a question. Why is there a military type academy and weapons? The Taboo Index has only ever been broken once, so why, I don't understand. Thank you for any help.

I_Love_Alice

Swordsmanship is more of a regal "sport" as far as the Zakkaria tournament and sword academy goes. That's why those practicing swordsmanship have flashy weapons and fighting styles; it's all for more visual asthetic rather than functionality.

As far as the academy goes, it's not so much "military" as it is "formal," but I'd assume it operates in that manner because most of the sword academy is populated by nobility or other people of notable class.

As far as weapons go, Integrity Knights (whom top students eventually become) fight against evil forces in the Dark Territories. Naturally there will be powerful weapons present.

gsimenas

whom top students eventually become

Correction: have a chance of becoming. They still have to compete with various knights for the honour. Only a very few actually make it that far.

ogie850

Thanks, the last paragraph answers what I missed. Again, ありげとう

JorgedeGoias

What’s with the Ge?

Echoes0faShadow

Should be が

Fastblizzard

Also Tiese mentioned in this episode, when a war breaks out the nobles have to take the swird and fight.

danktonium

This episode was exceedingly bland, and not very good. Not an episode I intend to watch again on any future viewings.

monstergeek

Couldn't the student go to the teachers when she was asked to strip and wash the other student?

xCymbidium

What light novel volume is this?

kacoret

Early part of volume 11

xCymbidium

Thanks!

CrimsonKingXIII

Well I both dislike and like where the next episode is heading. I like it because I believe Kirito and Eugeo will finally get to take down those two scum bag nobles, but I dislike that the nobles are probably going to be doing something even more scummy than they already are. Also given the title of the next episode, I fully expect someone to be breaking the Taboo Index.
