Rockwall VATRE Passed and I'm Genuinely Shocked
I have zero faith in the citizens of Rockwall to pass anything that would help public education. If you live here - or hell, even if you don't - you'd understand this sentiment. The school district's approach of telling parents what they would lose and need to pay for if the VATRE didn't pass was a brilliant tactic to show what reality is like behind the doors of the schools. The fact this proposition passed is nothing short of a "Lake Pointe Miracle."
The school district has seen a mass exodus of talented teachers because of the lack of funding the schools receive from its tax payers. They have had to resort to hiring unqualified teachers - yes, those who didn't pass teachers' exams - to fill spots because they're that desperate. Hopefully this proposition will turn things around.

To be fair, every district has seen a mass exodus of talented, experienced teachers. It’s partially funding, it’s mostly culture.

I’m sitting in my classroom (in another DFW district) looking for jobs. I always thought it would be the kids that pushed me over the edge, but it’s the district and the 10 million things they expect me to do with no resources and not enough time. I’m over it.

I really don't think you understand how things are out here considering last year every adjacent district to us passed propositions to help their school districts. Rockwall maintains it MAGA, Christian Nationalist, anti-tax, anti-public education stance. It was only when the district took the smart route - the scorched earth approach - that the bill passed.
Just the next day - today - my wife told me on Rockwallian (Facebook) that there are already people trying to ban together to bring a lawsuit against the district. I can't even make this shit up. Who would want to work in a school district where the parents are actively lobbying against them?

I’m on your side here, and am a former teacher of 16 years (2 years out). The culture I mention is exactly what you’re describing, where educators have become pariahs and public education is seen as a “grooming” tool. Teachers have always been underpaid (though to the extent as they currently are), but the work load that’s been added and the culture shift of bad parenting, and targeting of the industry for political points is what’s really made the job difficult.

My ex has been a teacher for 10 years and in that time society has changed from “My kid is failing, what am I doing wrong as a parent.” To “My kid is failing, what are you as a teacher doing wrong?”
Add on all the shenanigans and additional setbacks and problems from kids not having reliable education and structure during lockdowns and JFC.

I hope you enjoy it and aren't exposed to political shenanigans anymore!

The rockwallian is a plague run by a social media grifter who makes tons of money off engagement baiting internet busybodies and can barely be trusted as an accurate source of community sentiment. That being said, between the Rockwallian and the mega churches the people in the area are constantly whipped into a far-right frenzy that makes logic… difficult…
My parents live in Rockwall and I’m sure I’ll be hearing about this passing for weeks…

I don't have any social media besides Reddit. I just get to look at what my wife shows me there. It's mind boggling what people will say there with their name and face attached. 😂

Yeah, the teachers don’t really care about “more funding” when 90% of it is going towards administration that makes their jobs more difficult anyway.
