I can't make out the number

MisoRamenSoup

Still report it. Around most tunnels they have cameras and will be able to work out who it was even without the plate. Worth a punt.

joef360

If you can upload the raw file somewhere we might be able to make it out better as it won't have YouTube's compression.

MisoRamenSoup

Da Vinci resolve is what I use, pretty decent at pulling details with it. Give it a try u/dalore

cptrazek

Got a tutorial for that?

Thanks mate

And saying the number out loud helps you remember it better in case the camera wasn’t recording.

dalore [OP]

Good idea but I didn't see it either and hoped the dash cam would.

Bunt_smuggler

All i can make out seems to be SW_ THA or SU_ THA, maybe theres a way for the police to find out based on what is known about the car and the last three letters?

Edit- wrong car!

dalore [OP]

No that's a different car. The one that hits me comes from behind me. Look at the lights they are different.

Bunt_smuggler

Haha so much for my detective skills, sorry

Dank_Edits

Do you still have all of the footage of that journey? If you can, search through all the clips for that section of road. You never know, you might have passed him previously. Also, look at the raw file to see if you can make out the number plate. If you can barely see it, type the number you think it is on this website and if the car matches, then bingo, you've got him.

Also, report it to the police, they might be able to check the CCTV in that area, especially through the tunnel

dalore [OP]

Have reported it to the met.

Mazo

Upload the raw video file somewhere and link it here.

Favorite thing in this sub is listening to what people listen to in their car. Kill it with keto dude

DodgeyDemon

This world has serious mental health issues we need to figure out how to resolve.

tsukisan

As someone with PTSD and split personality disorder, I completely agree. The first step is making people aware of the effects on the individual.

Watching this video, I wanted what the other driver's mentality was. Of all the videos on this sub it is rare for a driver to have the gut reaction to flee. Most would at least be concerned with the status of their own vehicle first, especially when it is above average in cost (assuming since it's an Audi and fairly new from the looks).

lofblad

Be careful with the ketosis diet. It worked fine for me for about three months, and I know several people that have been on it for longer, but be wary of how your body reacts.

Good luck though!

Eddirter

6 months in and 45lbs knocked off, I’ll never go back now. Feel better than I have in many years - the first three weeks were legit awful though

lofblad

Awesome, man! Yeah it takes some time getting into it, but for some it's the best diet they ever tried if they tough it out. Good to hear it's working out for you, keep at it!

The way your body starts metabolising protein and fat over carbohydrates can be a rocky transition for some people.

Not that the transition poses a health risk but that it can make you feel very bad, the term thats mostly used is Keto Flu.

There are various symptoms that you can google but mostly its akin to withdrawals for some. For me it was pretty smooth but I dont really do it any more, just calories in, calories out.

Keto got me to a stage where I can easily start planning meals better.

As far as I know there arent any health risks to that diet as you still need to eat your normal amount of nutrients, just sub the calories of carbs you normally eat to that of either protein or fat.

Individdy

Stick with it. The three week mark is where a lot of people give up. /s

Bearmodulate

It worked really well for me, I did it for around a year. Just couldn't stand having to do meal prep for basically everything I ate

goddessofthewinds

This is what's killing me. I have a hard time starting due to this. I did decrease my carbs A LOT, but I'm still over the 50/daily and I find it too complicated to try and maintain it.

Trying to eat keto-friendly stuff did help in decreasing my carbs though. I still did lose 10 lbs in a month without going full-keto.

lofblad

Yeah it's the kind of thing that's individual, you know? My personal experience is somewhat irrelevant, I think, since people react so differently. It's always important to be observant to the body's reaction to changes in diet, especially such a radical one as to go into ketosis.

dalore [OP]

Keto is the body normal default. I'd say be careful eating carbs. Been on it for about 10 years now but have learnt lots more and been serious more recently.

xlMrCoyotelx

What does this have to do with this video?

Looks like he undertook you because you'd been in the outside lane for so long and he wanted to come past.

He's in the wrong for doing it and even more so for causing a collision and more so again for driving off afterwards but you could saved yourself the grief of it all by just pulling over to the inside lane when it was free.

If someone wants to drive like a prick it's best to just let them go past and do what they want to do elsewhere so it doesn't end up affecting you.

NoRodent

In the tunnel, there's a double continuous line, so no changing of lanes allowed. Once this ends, OP's already getting near the first Audi so he stays in the right lane to overtake. Now depending on the relative speed of those two cars, it could be that before the gap was large enough to return back to left lane without creating an unsafe gap, the second Audi already started undertaking OP so he couldn't move back.

Experienced something similar about a month ago. We were going (I wasn't driving) in the left passing lane and there was constant stream of cars in the right lane. The speed difference wasn't that big (I'm pretty sure we were doing the speed limit if not slightly over) so the guy in the pick-up truck behind us got really impatient. So once there was gap in the right lane, our driver started changing lanes but the guy behind us already decided he would undertake us, so he started changing them at the same time while accelerating only to hit the brakes hard when he realized we were moving over too. So he went into an insane mode, swerved back to the left lane, accelerated past us, moved back to our lane and started brake checking. Sometimes there's no right option to not upset an idiot.

llDurbinll

Plus it sounded like his car was giving all that it had just to maintain that speed, it couldn't even speed up to try and catch up to the guy and get the plate.

[deleted]

He's keeping up with the flow of traffic so there's no need. If it wasn't OP it would just have been the car in front.

[deleted]

I agree with you, but I also think the other driver is simply punishing the OP for keeping a reasonable amount of stopping space between him and the vehicle in front of him. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted someone to get out of the fast lane so I could pass but they don't because I refuse to tailgate them. I don't know if they just don't care or if they are not paying attention. Then people behind me act like I'm the problem.

I will usually get over then because it's just not worth it. Let the tailgater deal with the slow poke instead.

The audi is just another narrow minded 'blame the guy directly in front of me' prick.

plant_king

Looks a bit like they were going to pull off but then decided they could get away with it so might as well keep going

Dank_Edits

No I think he was just going to attempt an undertake to get away

Mirror [UK][OC] Driver merges into me and then drives off

Which car was it?

This one or was it the one you passed previously? - It is very hard to tell.

Dank_Edits

Wasn't the same car he passed before.

dalore [OP]

I didn't pass the guy that ran into me. He came up from behind.

  • Upload the original file to like dropbox or something and post a link.

  • Or go frame by frame on the original, and use the sharpening tool in Premiere Pro that helps a bit but probably not too much.

A more reliable method of recording the plate is recording via audio, and reading out the plate multiple times. The expectation that the dash cam will record every accident is wrong.

Also uninsured motorist insurance will probably cover the accident. With the video footage to your insurance company.

BTW Gap insurance is very nice, same for 1,000,000 of uninsured motorist insurance. - In case someone is not insured/under insured, and you or they actually get injured requiring hospitalization.

gronkowski69

You were hogging the fast lane. Doesn't excuse the Audi driver though.

dalore [OP]

No I was going as fast as the guy in the fast lane in front of me and we were overtaking.

[deleted]

If you were overtaking, how did he pass you on the inside?

Pass, move out of the passing lane, and this wouldn’t have happened.

The Audi driver was a cock, for sure. But you could’ve headed this off at the pass..

ribkicker4

I'm guessing when he passed the car on the left at the 40 second mark, the guy that hit him was riding his ass, cut off over to the left lane (so cammer could not merge left), then merged into the cammer.

ParrotofDoom

Pass, move out of the passing lane

It is illegal to cross or straddle a solid white line unless in exceptional circumstances.

[deleted]

The solid lines end 20 seconds into the video.

ParrotofDoom

At which point he begins to overtake the vehicle to his nearside.

I mean if you want to talk out of your arse, keep going. You're doing a good job.

[deleted]

Oh bless you. You know the old saying about a man who resorts to insults...

Dude had plenty of opportunity to pull out of lane 2. He didn't. The Audi driver was a dick, but this guy could've avoided it by driving sensibly. Pull in after the solid whites ended? Nope. Pulled in after he passed the Audi? Nope. What do you reckon the odds are that the preceding few minutes of video would show him camped in lane 2? And the preceding few minutes before that?

If they can't cope with lane changes, and have to sit petrified in one lane, scared shitless of moving a few feet to either side every now and then, maybe they shouldn't be out on the roads.

dalore [OP]

Dude I was following the convoy of cars in the right lane all passing slower cars. The speeder wanted to pass our convoy and saw a car and so merged into me. He thought he was visible but he wasnt as it's turning right over a corner.

He is free to join the convoy. It's the person at the front of the convoy to merge left and let the rest of the convoy overtake. Not the guy at the end.

It's illegal to undertake someone with the purposes of overtaking them in the UK.

JustBrass

Because I live in an area of the US where the far lane is “the fast lane” and not “the passing lane” I’m always caught a bit unaware when people start arguing about this.
