I'm pretty sure they'll refer back to the tree branch scene at least. It's a pretty significant thing to not mention.

BleedingUranium

Yeah, we'll likely see it when it becomes relevant.

waterflame321

I agree... Not to mention the kiss scene. Or what about that Duel... wasn't there a battle between the swordsmen jobs to see who got to move on to the big city?

Nixis198

Was a little mad when I didn't see those scenes. The kissing was a pretty important scene and the duel I just really wanted to see Zink get his butt kicked.

Nixis198

By the title of the next episode it looks like we will get the explanation of the fluctlights.

BleedingUranium

Yep, and I'm super excited for it! I love the real world Rath stuff. :D

Nixis198

I can't wait for Asuna to go CSI to find Kirito.

BleedingUranium

I'll definitely be making a gif of that shot in the OP as soon as we get the clean version. :3

Ksaraf23

I was really taken aback by Asuna disguising herself and pulling off the mask like in that Austin Powers movie!

I'm gonna check the anime-only thread next week to see everyone's reaction to that!

Nixis198

When I read that part I saw the train light, I could see the smoke, I could hear the horn, and yet I didn't get off the tracks. I was surprised to see Asuna their to say the least.

i hope the existential crisis will not be missing in the next episode

Soyatina

I was looking so forward to the fight between Eugeo and the guy who bullies him too!

Sounds like they cut an awful lot out of this episode.

waterflame321

Yes.

Bartimaeous

It might have something to do with time limitations. Alicization arc is MASSIVE and even 4 coir isn’t really enough adapt every single thing. It’s a shame, but not unexpected in an animated adaptation.

BleedingUranium

It's also more complex than simply "what stuff should we cut", and keep in mind they're also adding a fair bit too, so it's not like they're leaving things out just so they can cram the rest in on limited time.

For example, the anime brought in the idea of artificial fluctlights a little earlier, and I'm absolutely certain this was to minimize excessive confusion and give the audience all the pieces they need to put everything together in the first episode. Part of this is simply due to the difference between reading and watching something, and also due to having to wait a week between episodes (as opposed to easily being able to read through a whole novel in less than a day).

However, partially as a side effect of Kazuto being aware of the concept of artificial fluctlights (and partly due to storytelling preference), he doesn't have the same sort of existential crisis he does in his head in the novel. As a consequence of this, the idea of him doing something that he wouldn't do / couldn't do if he were a restricted artificial fluctlight copy (kissing Selka) becomes something that doesn't fit into the story anymore.

So in short, by introducing the idea of artificial fluctlights earlier, they can save time by not having the scenes that come from Kazuto's existential crisis, they can tell a "cleaner" story, and adjust the intended "audience confusion" for the new medium, all at the same time. This is where the art and skill of directing and adaptation comes in.

I_Love_Alice

Yep, exactly. People who are complaining about stuff being "cut" need to look at it from what the anime's story has portrayed and discussed, not just what the LN did. Like you said, they already talked about fluctlights earlier, and Kirito didn't have his small existential crisis in the anime, that he had in the books. Wouldn't fit here anymore. Also, I think Eugeo being the one to show his determination to Selka to bring Alice back is more fitting than Kirito doing it. Selka even mentions that Eugeo has avoided her ever since Alice was taken away, and this change even lets us see Eugeo finally overcoming that character point.

Along with that, I also don't really think the anime needed to show Eugeo vs Jink, because Jink was already BTFO by Kirito at the end of episode 2. Showing Jink get one-upped again isn't really needed for the anime, as cool as that scene is in the books. I would have loved to see it animated, but it's not really worth taking up more time, and potentially shortening a larger plot point down the road.

Lastly, not getting to see how Kirito gets the Gigas branch isn't a big deal either. It's not something that can be skipped. The Night Sky Sword is a pretty big plot point, so I'm sure we'll get a flashback of him retrieving the branch once getting it made into a sword becomes relevant.

Bartimaeous

I can’t say I don’t disagree.

LitreallySalty

Where can i read LN can someone give me link?

yuuka_miya

I was sure some cuts would happen, but I didn't expect them THIS early...

Nvaaaa

So, where is my adaption for my Kirito/Selka scene and Eugeos duel now? :/

emil_jacob_2000

A-1 are Kirisuna promoters.

AyumiVk

Well at least we had eugeo/selka :> I was also hoping they would keep the eugeo vs jink but its understandable since there was way too many content to cover with just an episode.

Nvaaaa

Still, I feel they stole me something important.

yuuka_miya

I wouldn't mind they devote one more episode to v9, but looks like Director Ono disagrees...

SaintNeos

Well, look on the bright side Nva-kun: Despite all that we lost, we got to see an exclusive animated moment of mini-loli Selka. That should cheer you up, right??

Destroyer29042904

mini-loli

what kind of overkill weapon of mass destruction is that?

Nvaaaa

Maybe, but still... where is my cute animated reaction to the kiss T_T.

SaintNeos

Yeah, I gotta say that was what disappointed me the most of seeing skipped, though mostly because of how much of a deep self-reflection moment that was for Kirito. And after we also got the moment where he took off his shirt before her skipped it only made it sadder XP

My recollection is that Eugeo's family (and at least some of the other villagers) expected him to help out on their farm.

slikayce

Yeah I think they wanted him to help them earn money and he was really conflicted about chasing a fantasy or helping his family. But its been a while so I could be miss remembering\

uDustin

The long-awaited Episode 4 has arrived, and I gotta say...

I'll be brutally honest, (even if it means me getting downvoted to death) that was a tad-bit disappointing.

The goblin fight scene was handled beautifully, (even though some inner dialogue and things were cut out) the fighting and sword animations were beaaaaaaaaaaaaautiful and perfect. Absolutely stunning!

Alice making that cameo was heartwarming and sweet by the way, definitely one of my favorite parts of the episode.

I really wanted to see them get scolded by the village elders about why the hell they ran away, and Kirito bringing back goblin boyo's head, but that was cut out which is :/ I guess that's fine?

The awakening part where Kirito and Eugeo test out the Blue Rose Sword after their OCA went up was fabulous. I really did like that a lot, and even more so when you see Eugeo's character development really start to take effect when he asks Kirito to train him to become a swordsman so he isn't weak and helpless anymore.

I'm kinda pissed off that they re-did the LN scene of where Eugeo cries on Kirito's shoulder when he tells Kirito "I've been waiting for you for six years to come." but that's kind of nitpicking so not too bothered by it.

The party scene :( that was my biggest gripe with this episode man. I wanted to see Kirito get drunk and intoxicated, I wanted to see Eugeo's duel with Jink when he cries like a bitch that Eugeo gets to be a swordsman but he can't, I wanted to see Selka drag Kirito back to the church and scolds him for drinking too much. And most importantly, I wanted to see that cute forehead kiss scene :(

But honestly, I'm not too bothered by that forehead kiss scene because of the anime original scene of Eugeo talking to Selka. That was heartwarming and a surprise, really well done by A-1 :D

By the way, on a side note, Selka saying that line "Make sure all three of you come back." ...Fuck man that is just too heart jerking, because we know a certain blonde haired boy won't ever come back to Rulid ever again :'(

Cutting out the part where Kirito gets the tree branch from the Gigas Cedar was a bummer. When they explain what that is on Kirito's back in future episodes, it will most likely be a flashback, but I still wanted them to show it in this episode, but it wasn't that bad that they cut it out.

The very last part when they are leaving for the village, I was screaming for them to do their handshake, but of course, I never get what I want :(

Overall, I'd rate this episode an 8/10. That's just me setting aside my fan bias for SAO and being honest here. I'm not saying the episode was garbage, it was amazing, but I really really wish they didn't cut out too many things. I get that they had too for time's sake, but I honestly wouldn't mind them breaking the last part of Vol 9 off into two episodes. Idk, they maybe could have ended Episode 4 with Eugeo declaring he wanted to be a swordsman and Jink running up to the stage and yelling "Hell no dude that's unfair." then Ep 5 would be the continuation. Idc how they did it, I just honestly wanted to see more things from the LN animated but oh well.

IILordBeefII

Technically only one of them comes back, and he does in a completely desroyed state :/ I can't help but to get the feels everytime they mention al three of them beeing together again.

uDustin

I've never been a fan of people separating Alice into two entities (I mean Alice S30 is still Alice Schuberg just without her childhood memories so lol, if you get amnesia, i'm pretty sure you are still you and not two different humans) so I consider it two people coming back and Eugeo, unfortunately, does not.

IILordBeefII

I think that you are you because of the experiences that you had, if I would forget everything that happened to me and my personality would change completely I would consider myself a different person

Nixis198

Man I really wanted to see Kirito get drunk. And Zink getting all mad that he lost.

ColtFortyFour

Does the spoiler rule not apply to this thread? I've only read up to the official releases so that spoiler in paragraph 10 was pretty massive :(

uDustin

This is the Light Novel thread, so all light novel things both official released and fan translated can be said without tags. The fan translation is currently at the Epilogue of Volume 18, which is the end of the Alicization Arc, so I'm sorry that I spoiled that for you bud :/.

mysistersacretin

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that spoiler is already in the official releases, so having spoiler rules for those wouldn't have saved you. Volume 14 came out recently.

boreddoom

Yea, I'm pretty disappointed too. The second half of V9 was, personally, my favourite part this arc so im really sad to see that it was all rushed into one episode with lots of scenes cut out.

Selka: ...make sure all three of you come back!

I'm crying so much T_T

Ksaraf23

Not as much as I am.

On the inside, I mean.

WeebWallets

I have some mixed feelings about this episode. The animation in the goblin cave was amazing

But they didn't show kirito getting the tree branch.

like why. There's going to be a lot of people anime only people who aren't going to know what it is.

BleedingUranium

There's going to be a lot of people anime only people who aren't going to know what it is.

I'm sure it'll be explained when he goes to get it made into a sword.

Soyatina

Or maybe during the next episode, there will be a flashback of getting the tree branch and stopping by Sadore's place? I do agree that this part is important and should've been shown in the anime.

BleedingUranium

The next episode is definitely going to be 100% in the real world, and then we still have the Zakkaria tournament to go through before they get to Centoria, and then it takes Sadore (IIRC) their whole first year at the academy to make it.

We'll likely first hear about it when Kirito goes to pick up the finished sword, especially since him dropping it off was (IIRC) told as a flashback at that point in the LN too.

Soyatina

Ahhhh yes, it's been quite a while since I've last read the LNs. Thanks again for the memory refresher!

emmeka

I'm a bit disappointed they cut the Kirito/Selka scene. But I get they had a lot of material to cram here. Also, I wonder how they're going to deal with the stick later on since they skipped that too? Will Kirito just have it on him and we'll see it explained in a flashback, or is someone going to show up in the capital to deliver it? Also a little disappointed they cut out Eugeo totally owning Jink.

Draemon_

That was the thing on Kirito's back wrapped up at the end of the episode, I'd expect some kind of an explanation in the form of a flashback

BleedingUranium

It'll probably flow better this way. No need to draw attention to it yet, it's basically just there for continuity right now, and it'll be properly brought up again when Kirito goes to try out the completed sword.

Shino wearing the heart monitor thingy as a necklace is a similar example, or trading creepy-Gabriel-killing-Sinon for a far more normal GGO match, which still plants the seeds of later villains, but avoids drawing so much attention and intrigue to them that it sets the wrong expectations (since we really won't see them until the whole first half of the arc is over).

These are the sorts of adjustments that are absolutely needed for a solid adaptation, because often adapting 1:1 from a novel does not work out well in terms of actual storytelling and cinematography.

Shimat

I wanted to see Kirito kissing Selka so badly, it's a shame they didn't adapted that :( But overall I love how A-1 Pictures is doing Alicization, such a great job

[deleted]

emil_jacob_99

Ok, this is probably frequently discussed, but inner thoughts can't properly be expressed in a light novel-anime adaptation.

BleedingUranium

They can, and they've been doing that a fair bit; this is more to do with pacing and intended storytelling, rather than whether they could or not.

emil_jacob_99

I meant to say "properly".

Aetherdraw

Seeing Eugeo's abdomen injury gave me volume 14 flashbacks...or is it flashforwards in this case?

Spockies

I'm sure it was always foreshadowing anyways!

Kirito got cut in his right shoulder this episode.... I wonder why it was the right?!

load 1 more replies →

DiligentFox

The quality of animation on those fights is god tier, having the particle effects leave a trail behind each slash of a sword skill is so satisfying compared to the sword just glowing in the Aincrad arc.

I also like that they've included the seed of moral struggle by saying the goblins may be artificial fluctlights too, bringing those concepts in now will make the "second" arc so much more impactful for anime onlies.

With next episode being titled "Ocean Turtle", that should mean it will be an episode centred fully around the real world, hopefully with the extended scenes following Kirito's injection and some backstory for Rath!

BleedingUranium

Agreed on all counts. :D

[deleted]
SaintNeos

Okay...they cut A LOT from the episode. I'm especially disappointed with the lack of the 'kiss' scene because that was an important moment, both to show Kirito's own self-reflection about the Underworld's and his own nature regarding it. Or the bit with Eugeo showing off his swordsmanship to everyone, which was something I especially looked forward to seeing...

That aside, though, the bits we GOT to see were truly amazing. BLOOD! WOUNDS! With no Censor! Truly, the depth, epicness and seriousness of that fight scene was amazing...Kirito and Eugeo, great job, you made Goblin Slayer-san proud! Also, the bit where he and Selka save him and we get the brief glimpse of Alice Zuberg's soul was even more touching than I imagined, if slightly censored compared to the novel :P (Funny, they show blood and beheading but they feel the need to give Alice's ghostly form a ghostly 'dress' XD)

And they're off now! Towards the series' greatest adventure now...go on, young swordsmen! A world of opportunity awaits you...

Also, seems next episode will exclusively be the Interlude (Asuna's voice and the title gave it away, yeah). Let's hope they don't cut out too much there at least...hopefully we get to see the scenes before that when Kazuto had just been brought to the hospital, with Asuna crying on Sugu's arms, and the meeting of the 3 Main Heroines in ALO. Before this episode I wouldn't have feared such parts to be cut off, but after seeing it I fear they may just skip straight to the Ocean Turtle...

PS: That short scene showing little Selka as she was back when Alice was taken was a treat, though. She was even more adorable <3

enzer_pyro

By the Goddess Stacia, that was a beautiful episode.

I imagined the scene with the brief exchange between Kirito and Eugeo to be quite different when I was reading the novel. Mostly Eugeo, seeing that I didn't realise how scared he would be by facing goblins. How he expressed his fear through his voice was done well, as well as being hesitant.

Throwing a Sword like that is dangerous, Kiritard. The battle between Kirito and Ugachi was fantastically animated. Kirito managing to subdue the adds almost effortlessly, being able to keep up with Ugachi as if a day hasn't passed since he last swung a Sword in battle and this brand new, grander «Swordland» in the background. It was nice to actually hear him shout out the names of the Sword Skills for once, Today's Skills being the three hit Sword Skill «Sharp Nail» and one-hit «Sonic Leap». I almost cried due to the sheer beauty of everything.

How they displayed Kirito's dread after he was cut by Ugachi was also well done, it managed to quickly dampen the mood. As well as Eugeo's determination in not wanting to repeat his mistakes. Seeing the 4th Episode LN illustration with Eugeo's final lines really brought a tear to my eye. Glad to hear Kirito shout: "I AM THE SWORDSMAN KIRITO!" was my wish granted.

Everything afterwards was alright. I never imagined the effect Sword Skills had on the Gigas Cedar would be massive, but I'm sad that they had to cut out some things from the novel. Such as Eugeo's duel with Jink and Kirito's "Oath of a Swordsman" Not to say that the training sequence with Eugeo or Eugeo proclaiming to Selka that he will bring Alice home was bad. But I was so looking forward to Kii-bou and Euge-bou dancing. Time constraints are time constraints.

To conclude: damn it A1! I want people to see why Eugeo deserves the Best Boy crown. Next episode: words and more words but animated.

Future fights are going to be jaw-dropping.

Ksaraf23

I’m kinda glad they didn’t show Kirito kissing Selka on the forehead.

It was a sweet moment, but it would have riled up a LOT of fans everywhere!

BleedingUranium

It was cut as a side effect of Kazuto's whole "am I an AI / copy?" existential crisis being cut (because artificial fluctlights were explained early), and that was his reason for kissing her.

Without that reason, it really wouldn't have made any sense.

Ksaraf23

Exactly. It was a cut done for the best reasons.

Tiinpa

We can’t even get Kirito taking the top of the tree?! Love the adaptation but we’re losing a ton of little moments.

Spockies

Mixed bag of feelings on this episode.

On one hand, it was more emotionally charged for Eugeo than his LN form. He is more determined in the heart in the anime. His duel with Jink being cut seems to hurt Eugeo's character arc going forward though. Hopefully we'll get to see more confidence boosters coming Eugeo's way in the anime.

As for Kirito doing Kirito things, it's soooo good with Swordland playing. As many others have said about cutting the scene of getting the Gigas Cedar branch being cut literally in the UW and literally (heh) from the anime, I'm okay with it as long as we get the same origin story being told later. Cutting out Old Man Garitta is no good though because he is an important link to flow the story reasonably for Kirito, Eugeo, and Alice in their respective moments. Hopefully he gets properly acknowledged for his advice, otherwise we're running into "Kirito knows everything" territory.

Oh well, Best Girl next episode!

Natchyy24

Asuna is back finally next week!

BleedingUranium

Next week is gonna be one of my favourite episodes for sure.

OneMillionRoses

Unpopular opinion but I'm more sad they skipped the Zink fight instead the Selka kiss (I didn't care for this moment at all so whatever...). Next week they will finally show Asuna's Pov 🤔

Spockies

Now that I think about it, the Zink and Eugeo fight wasn't just a revenge on the bully fight. It was that duel that set the premise of no harm shall incur to other fighting parties, thus reinforcing the Taboo Index and future fights within the Human Empire. Guess we'll have to wait a few more episodes for that rule to come about....

Destroyer29042904

I am sad they skipped both, not even the bloodbath and great animation of the goblin fight can make up for it

OneMillionRoses

The Zinc fight made me salty too but they're still doing a great job.

kacoret

I can't stand this! I don't know what to say right know so probably will edit this out next morning but for sure this has been an emotional ride for me personally! Keep shouting, keep smiling, my tears falling, it's not raining but it's paid off after the 3 episodes build up to this point. Sure there's lots of stuff cut off from the LNs but they did a pretty decent job with this episode!

Alicization finally taking off :')

OneMillionRoses

They skipped a lot of things but overall the episode was still great :-) And damn I got the chills when my girl Alice Schuberg showed up. Also Rip Klein xD

Shimat

This chapter was too beautiful, full of mixed emotions. They knew how to adapt it so well that it is so good like the light novel, although there were slightly unnecessary parts that were not showed but beyond that I greatly enjoyed the adaptation of the first volume, too much quality in the animation and they even knew how to portray violent scenes well. If that is how they did it I expect very good results from the other volumes because this fight against the goblins was the tip of the iceberg. The characterization of Eugeo going from being a wimp to a brave one was very well worked out as well, that moment when he saves Kirito had a greater impact in the anime (Kondo koso, boku ga mamoru da!) and it was perfect.

The truth is that I wasn't that excited about the adaptation since Kirito used his Dual Blades for the first time, they even added a remastered version of Swordland. That scene where Eugeo speaks with Selka promising to save Alice was totally original, which would come to replace the same moment in the novel where Kirito kisses Selka promising to go to the Central Cathedral to rescue Alice, it was a subtle but clever change, since in that way it makes Alicization a bit more serious.

But beyond all these minimal changes I really enjoyed being able to see it animated, it was also so cool to see the reaction of all people on this new arc that I'm already eager to see the other great moments of this story; it has only been four chapters and A-1 Pictures has been totally overcome. My expectations about Alicization grew with this last chapter. This adaptation is in good hands.

CeeNain

I don't want to be negative. I liked the animation and I didn't know if they would actually show the blood effects (it was awesome that they did). I wish it was a bit more graphic but I understand that's not the tone of SAO's anime. Wished we were able to see Eugo's guts when he gets hurt lol and Kirito cutting the other globin's head.

The problem for me doesn't lay there. I don't like Kirito very much in the anime. Don't know why, but I've come to realize Kirito is a bit cringy when he acts like a big knowitall. For example, don't like how he just unsheathes Blue Rose and says "I'll use this instead". I mean I get that it isn't the same as the novels because you can't know what he thinks all the time and the dialogue has to change accordingly, but I dunno... I feel Kirito is more likeable and less of an egocentric in the novels. Alas, I wouldn't know how to make anime Kirito better. I know adapting someone else's work most be a difficult task. Enjoyable episode, as well as the other three. Waited for years but I guess I'll keep reading the novels to get the complete experience (I'm in vol. 11).

I'll keep watching anyway lol want to know the vision they have for the arc as a whole in the art department.

waterflame321

Between being lazy and saving people skimming my profile, I'll leave in the spoiler tags.

Anyway... so I already know they skipped the kiss, and sped through the rest of it so we can get to Spoiler So I'm a little disappointed. Some of the skipped inner dialogue / scenes kind of meant some things... Like the kiss showed that he wasn't just another cloned soul bound by rules, but him self(though he was already kind of this).

  • Watching the OP, how are people going to react when Spoiler
  • But earlier you said a Sword is nothing like an Ax!
  • I want to say he had more of a struggle in the novel... Then again, they are speeding things up. Not to mention his "level"err "authority", how is he able to hold up to a goblin king? I mean I guess if you have enough forward momentum... anyway, the fight looked very pretty :p *During the goblin king rant, they could of totally over-layered is monologue about how if they felt pain like this in Aincrad he would of never left the first floor and about how he was wrong to this of this world as just a game. As a reminder, it may be a spoiler(I think it'll be explained next week) Spoiler
  • Back to the strength thing... Eugo is able to One-hand em'... I mean, he was an Axe wielder... but still! :p
  • He's remembering!!
  • Damn it... the lowering the brightness kills the scene :x
  • Ah right, this is the part where Alice shows up or what not and is like "I'm waiting for you in the tower".
  • Yep, there it is! I feel it's a little off place compared pared to the novel... but I might just be my memory... Like it was done better or something... like something was missing. Like Alice helped out or something...
  • He got them EXP gains!
  • Woah there... that is way more then in the novel. I swear, it took them like a week or so with the sword. Are they going to two shot this bitch?
  • Okay, getting a wider angle, it's less deep then it looked.
  • New sword type hype!
  • > Eugeo misses and slices Kirito in half
  • I swear they still sped up the tree cutting, but you know... oh well. Got to move on.
  • Are they at least going to do the "woah I can actually get drunk" thing? Even if they skip the kiss...
  • Yes dad! I'll become an awesome "side-cock"... though I'm actually pretty badass my self.
  • I see they skipped the scene where going to see the falled tree, Eugo's dad suggests taking a part of the tree to be made into a sword or something. Spoiler
  • A lot was cut... to move on to the next arc, especially in the town, not to mention I recall there being a battle between the swordsmen job people on who was to become the head and represent them in the tournament in the bigger town near by
  • Next Episode

Smokemantra

That was not a goblin king, just the boss of a scout party. They wouldn't have beaten a goblin king.

The lighting bothers me too, I can already see some scenes in the future getting worse, like probably the fight with Fanatio.

Also I wonder how they'll handle the "observer", since in volume 10 some parts are narrated in 3rd person speaking about it or 1st person from its perspective.

BleedingUranium

Also I wonder how they'll handle the "observer", since in volume 10 some parts are narrated in 3rd person speaking about it or 1st person from its perspective.

Yeah, how they're going to do Charlotte's perspective for the tournament has always been my biggest question in terms of adaptation.

Dark_Blade

So they cut out pretty much the length of half an episode from this one. I don't mind really, since I don't think those things were important enough to justify possibly shortening some of the more important scenes later on.

And HOLY SHIT there was a lot of blood this time around! This bodes well for the rest of Alicization, since it's a really bloody arc and the censoring would've killed it.

Ksaraf23

I wish people wouldn’t complain so much about what’s being cut. I’m confident A-1 Pictures knows what they’re doing this time around, and this adaptation so far is LIT AS F***!

zxHellboyxz

LN Readers this is bugging me but i got to know , how is authority determined like how did kitro get like 40 authority even though he did nothing when he was a kid in the world or is it due to choping that the tree each day , because it clear now that kitro was actually born into this world yet he has like 40 authority when he goes back into the underworld

Watching Eugeo in action is like watching him being reborn. Such a nice episode.

Don7Quijote

Finally had a chance to watch today's episode and I still can't get over on how good the animation is. Like others have said I too was a little dissapointed with the removal of a couple scenes particularly with the cutting down the top of tree and the significance of it, also I don't think there are any images of old man Garitta that I remember and was hoping to see him animated.

Despite what I said last week, I now enjoy the fact that the Kirito and Selka scenes are being cut out, to me, it's as if they're saying to us: "Kirito is someone who is just passing through that made a change in Selka's life, but not in a romantic way." I really appreciate this (even though I would LOVE some best imouto scenes), as it makes the viewer realize that Kirito can infact, make a change in a girl's life WITHOUT making them fall in love with him.

Also, HOT DAMN, the fight scene is done SOOOOO WELL. I genuinely gagged when I saw Eugeo get cut.

To all LN readers could you spare some time to link or tell me some of your favorite sights to read on. I wish to continue my journey fearless of spoilers (and the story is amazing).

Note: I've never read any light novels before.

Well this episode was pretty good, I will resist the urge to parrot the complaint of cut content as I realized that given the slight changes in the anime adaption, they might make less sense... Still a bit of a shame nonetheless!

The animation during the goblin fight was pretty good though I'll admit!

Anyway hopefully the next episode might bring about some interesting changes or two to what happened in the LN as well! Otherwise I have half a mind to just skip it personally ;p But each to their own! ^-^

HUGE missed opportunity, they should have added a scene with Charlotte (the spider) jumping on Kirito's back when they leave rulid. IK it was not in volume 9 but it WAS in volume 11-12 and they are gonna have to do a flashback to here anywyas

They did cut out a lot of stuff from this episode with zink being jealous and trying to refuse Eugeo's right to be a swordsman, Eugeo possibly regretting that he isn't helping his family, Garitta explaining the cedar wood can be used later on. It is not the end of the world as none of these really progress the story all that much but they are nice little moments that im sure the novel readers wanted to see, but I understand that adapting has to cut sometimes. The actions scenes were a little disappointing to me they seemed really zoomed in and I had a hard time even understanding what was going on or maybe I am just dumb IDK. Either way can't wait to see some real world exposition next week.

Zink was never overly important, and I feel things flow better with him being an asshat in the scene they added of when Kirito first entered the town, instead of after they fall the tree.

I expect we'll hear all about the stick once Kirito brings it to that blacksmith in Centoria, then they can keep all the sword-related info together.

Spockies

Eugeo vs Zink didn't matter to the people involved other than a morale booster for Eugeo....

As a viewer, it was the first time it explained about a Taboo Index and how you could not reduce the Life of another person.... So it's pretty important to establish that otherwise a certain someone contradicting themselves isn't going to make too much sense.
